Mar 27 2012 - Mine Train structure vertical and visible over walls

Really beginning to see how this will work with the sight lines. The mine train "mountain" will do a great job of isolating the theming of the individual expansion areas and controlling all the sightlines. Thanks!

I see they are adding the details to alot of the buildings like Belles Cottage but none of the buildings have any roofing yet. Is that generally the last thing to go on in a construction build after the windows, theming, etc.?

Not usually. Roofing usually goes in as fast as possible to weatherproof the building.

I noticed a lot of the roofing in the FLE is aluminum or something similar so they can put on the shingles or other theming whenever they want. I suspect they are taking this more expensive option due to the Florida rain and humidity. When they removed the liner from the Tea Cups you could see all the rot. So while plywood probably works perfectly in a place like Southern California it appears they are trying different materials at times in Florida.

This has caused me to speculate that many of the MK rehabs are utilizing newer materials so as to mitigate the problems of rot, mildew, insect damage etc. This may be why we have seen so many schrims and so many rehab projects throughout the MK. It is quite possible these state of the art materials and techniques are much more expensive and time consuming than the old methods. But it may mean the infrastructure will be much less expensive to maintain in the long term and Disney will then be able to more readily focus on the details visible by guests including Kevin Yee.

~just my opinion~

Perhaps Disney is quoting 2 years as a coverage in case there are any unforeseen issues with a ride car that is relatively new. If they quoted 1 year and they fall behind people would be outraged since many would plan vacations to be there shortly after launch. However if they quote 2 years and open in a year early people will be ecstatic that Disney got the work done so fast. Essentially it could just be to protect their butts in case of any delay.

As for the timeframe for the mountain, unfortunately I think 2 years is possible. There is probably more than one reason for this but I am hoping the primary reason is that the mountain will be so detailed and filled with magic pixie dust manufactured by Imagineering that it just may take that long.

And I love how the back part of the FLE is 'disappearing' behind this magic mountain.

~I repeat, just my opinion~ :)

Yeah the "2 years" thing seems carzy to me, they're going to want this whole thing done A.S.A.P. so they can do a proper grand opening

The whole staggered opening thing just really bugs me for some reason. I guess it just takes the WOW out the whole thing walking through construction for 2yrs. While I have been critical of the amount of things going into the FLE, I do think it will look fantastic. I guess I just wanted to see it all done at once, even if that meant not seeing mermaid and beauty and the beast when they are done.

I'm guessing, or hoping, "2 years" is just to give them cover so if things go bad or the weather slows it down so they don't have another debacle like the "Test Track" opening

Makes you sorry for the folks who have been dealing with the DCA fix for over half a decade.

Here is what BatB looked like last March. So assuming it opens this fall, this was the progress 18 months before opening. Looking at the current state of the Mine Ride it's not hard to believe it has at least 18 months of work to go.

but is the Snow White mini rollercoaster on the same level of complexity as the BatB with its magic dining rooms, kitchens, bathrooms, pluming, venting, electric... The mine train has a big foot print, but it's mostly steel track and landscaping right?

I just want to comment on the layout of this coaster real quick.

I read people say it's pretty tame and not going to be terribly exciting. I agree that the coaster will be more family oriented. But I don't think this sucker is going to be a cake walk by any means. In doing research, I've discovered that this coaster appears to have several kinds of S turns. For a free swinging ride car, that is the best thing you can have in your layout. S turns will get those cars swaying. The swinging motion is what will make the ride more intense; not the speed or height or ride elements. It's never going to be as intense as Rockin, Everest, etc. But I think it's going to be more surprising then people think because of the way it looks like the layout will lend itself to sway action.

The mine ride will have it's own areas of complexity, all the ride mechanics, loading and unloading platform show scenes with animatronics, lighting and sound, vehicle service area, etc. Also remember that the landscaping around the track is likely to be artificial like the rock work on BatB and LM. In some ways this is probably going to be built like Radiator Springs Racers at DCA, concrete foundation, steel track, and then wrapped in rockwork.

Don't get me wrong, I would be great to see this open quickly, but it's not unreasonable to think that this could take another 18 months.
