I for one am against it. I really think there are better things Disney could do than construct an Avatarland. I do trust Disney and believe they will put together something great. On paper though I have no interest and really didn't care much for the movie even.

If that is the case does it not mean you should be voting Yay??

Just asking

Not a single kid came trick-or-treating to my house on Halloween as an Avatar character.

And I had dozens and dozens of kids this year come to my house. Lots of Harry Potter kids, an endless stream of Disney Princesses and Pixar characters, some superheros and some zombie monsters, and even two girls dressed up like Real Housewives of Orange County :o , but not a single blue alien or mean capitalist human from Avatar came to my door.

And since none of the costume shops or Target sells Avatar costumes for Halloween, and there's no Avatar toys for sale at Target or Toys R' Us, there's clearly no buzz to live in or experience the Avatar world.

That should be all the consumer research Disney needs to know Avatarland was the biggest mistake they'd made since Disney's California Adventure in 2001.

Ech. No. Movie is so overrated. Personally think people obsessed over the effects rather then the actual story.

Which is probably why Disney will accentuate the visual effects in their building of this land

Nay.

If it was just a ride? Maybe. But a whole land based off a property that's as dull as dishwater and about as creative as it?

No thanks.

How many kids were dressed as a Yeti or a bellhop from Tower of Terror? How about Steven Tyler or Uncle Remus?

I thought Avatar as a movie was "eh" - but I was sure excited to see what Disney Imagineering could do with the concept. I will be disappointed if it gets scrapped.

I'll probably one of the few that say nay.

I wasn't a fan of the movie that was apparantly, quote on quote, "perfect". I think the movie is over-rated, too long and slightly boring. But, that's just coming from me and a big group of other ignorant middle schoolers

I particularly would've preffered the land that was going to have the land with all the myth stuff. Not Avatar. Avatarland should've been put in Universal I don't think it should be put at Disney. This is all my opinion tho. Avatarland should've replaced either Lost Continent or Jurrasic Park at IoA. I don't like the idea. And the fact that a non-disney film is being worked into the parks is worse for my head. I couldn't even imagine Harry Potter in the Disney parks. And I don't want to. No FOX, no universal. It's bad enough MARVEL is being worked in. I want Disney to stay Disney. Period.

I think this might kind of show swayed results. I would like to see Avatarland done, but only if the proper effort and budget is put to it. Otherwise I'm against Disney attempting it.

I think it's incredibly premature to call this "the biggest mistake disney has ever made."

I totally understand people being against the project but with it not due to be complete for at minimum 5-6 years... it's hardly eligible to be considered a mistake. Only time will tell if it's actually a mistake.

I think the biggest point that gets missed in all the Avatar or No Avatar talk is that Disney is 100%, absolutely NOT marketing to us. And by "us" I mean the people who are diehard enough and big enough Disney fans to be contributing members to a forum dedicated to it.

They don't need to get us... they already have us.

Avatarland or no Avatarland, we go.

Beastlie Kindgomme or no Beastlie Kingdomme... we go.

Soarin' 2.0 or Soarin' 1.0 with considered low upkeep... WE GO.

(You get the point.)

Disney has absolutely no reason and no motivation to market to their Disney diehards who want to see more things DISNEY. Who want to keep up that old school Disney feel. All the people who say "Nay" to Avatarland, are you going to stop going to Disney because they build it? Seems completely preposterous of a thought to me...

They're trying to bring in NEW blood. They're trying to appeal to a completely different demographic. They already have pretty much something for everything people are wishing they would expand on.

Star Wars - check. Pixar - Check. Pirates - Check. Princesses - Check. Whatever else - Check. It's in the parks... we'd obviously rather see more of those things, but they already have what they consider enough to keep us coming back.

They're bringing in a new brand name that will have a following outside of Disney-diehards who may have never even been to Disney before and they will come for Avatarland... but then stay for everything else...

I think it's as good an idea as they could have possibly come up with for what the Disney Business is trying to accomplish, and I am quite excited to see how it turns out.

I say nay.

Your point is well taken but for the fact that the general public was apathetic towards the initial announcement.

Completely True.

But, just from my perspective on this... it wasn't really a "big announcement" for the general public.

Harry Potter World over at Uni sounds like its doing great (I don't know if it actually is, only basing this off the sense I get from references to that on this forum) and when they first announced it... I'm sure the general public was fairly in the dark about it.

It wasn't until they started heavily advertising it to coincide with the release of its films that the general public got really excited about it.

I think with a good marketing campaign in conjunction with the release of the sequels (which you'd have to assume will bring in a solid audience given what the first movie accomplished in theatres) that the general public will get a little more excited about it and it will get a better overall response.

Again, just my personal opinion on it.

I think Disney could do something much better. I think the movie is way overrated. :veryconfu So I just think they could do something better but it might be kinda cool I guess but I still think they could do better!

Against it. Iger's attempt to trump Potterland with an unproven (as far as franchise strength goes), un-Disney addition to Animal Kingdom is as wrongheaded an idea as they come. One, I hope, that will die a quiet death in an Imagineer's waste bin.

Come ON, Diz - bring back Beastly Kingdomme!
