Floo powder

It just struck me. This can be the ride that links the two lands.

When in Universal Studios, you're in London. A floo powder ride would start inside, you'd be sprinkled by sparklies, and a launching coaster would take you through some effects inside. Suddenly, a bright flash and you're coastering over central Florida! Then, you'd head for another building and in a flash you're inside, in special effect land, sparkle sparkle flash and POW! You're at Hogwart's.
You could take the same e-ticket ride BACK to the other land.
No Hogwart's Express train. An E-ticket thrill ride that is also transportation.
Two tracks? One there and one back?

Floo powder. You heard it here first. Completely my own imagination, but it makes sense. Right?

Floo powder is already used in Forbidden Journey, it's how you begin and end the ride. "Say Observatory (Observe-a-tree) on three, one, two, three", it puffs up green smoke, you fly through the Floo network.

That's not the floo powder, that's just to make it so you can fly... if it was the floo network, they would have had you going through fireplaces.

You do. It's the Floo Network. Hermione tosses Floo powder, and the green flame is represented by the green fog.

Right after the green flame, the screens show brick walls and it looks like you're flying along them, hence, flying through the fireplaces until you reach the observatory.

The spell is to make the benches fly. As Hermione casts the spell you enter the Floo Network via a fireplace - the projection effects show you moving through a maze of brick passages. Same thing happens at the end of the ride to return you to the Room of Requirement.

Yep. You are in the Room of Requirement and you require a fireplace.

Since Matpez referenced the powder as "already used," here's a general question for everyone:

Does the powder's use in Forbidden Journey somehow preclude its use elsewhere, such as in a manner that the OP suggested?
