So I was reading the disney blog post about "The year of more magic" and noticed that the new Little Mermaid ride was going to be called "Under the Sea: Voyage of the Little Mermaid"........um, Hey imagineers.......not sure if anyone brought this up while you were coming up with names but uh.......you already have a show in DHS called "Voyage of the Little Mermaid".......so uh.......are you just trying to confuse guests now? :drevil:

I am aware that most of us will not fall for this silly trick but your average park guest might. Granted, I guess the name really won't make a difference as I am sure that once the ride opens, the cast members at VOTLM will probably be asked on a 15 minute basis "Is this the new ride!?" :brick:

One's a ride, the other a show. One's at MK, the other DHS. I'm sure most people will be able to handle that.....

Oh you would be surprised lol

I work in DHS and I constantly am having this conversation with guests

Guest: Where is Honey I shrunk the Audience?
Me: That was at Epcot, but was replaced with Captain EO 2 years ago
Guest: Are you sure? I am almost positive that it was here.
Me: Nope, we have a playground called "Honey I shrunk the kids movie play set"
Guest: Oh maybe that is what I saw then

Just more of an opportunity to interact with folks then....

It can't be that hard. What I hate are these long drawn out titles. Seven dwarfs mine train and under the sea: voyage of the little mermaid? Are you kidding me? I am more of a 2-3 word title guy myself.

The ridiculously long titles get to be moronic. People are going to shorten the titles as they see fit, and even Disney does with some things on internal documents:

Toy Story Midway Mania becomes Toy Story Mania
The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh becomes Winnie the Pooh on Fastpasses
Expedition Everest Legend of the Forbidden Mountain is often shortened as Expedition Everest.

As for The Little Mermaid, the show in DHS is "Voyage of the Little Mermaid". The ride in New Fantasyland is "Under the Sea: Journey of the Little Mermaid". It's not identical, but there isn't a huge difference either between Journey and Voyage. In DCA it's called "Ariel's Undersea Adventure". If anything the long name could have worked in California - why it was changed for Florida I have no idea.

Honestly, Universal's approach of "The Simpsons Ride" or "Back to the Future The Ride" or a quick tagline like "The Revenge of the Mummy" or "Men in Black Alien Attack" works better.

Isn't it going to be the same ride as "Ariel's Undersea Adventure" at DCA? Just name it that! Clear. No confusion with DHS show. Done.

Aye!

Who comes up with these silly names? More importantly, why? Is it for marketing reasons? :veryconfu

Space Mountain Runaway Spacetravel Adventure
Fantastic Voyage into YOUR Small World
Eddie Murphy's Spooky Adventures into the Haunted Mansion of Family Friendly Cartoon Ghosts

Why make the same generic name on both coasts just cause thats what its called in Cali? Journey of the Little Mermaid is nice for a change and something that stands out for OUR version. The word Adventure is so overused and is on too many attraction titles as it is. Besides, once the ride opens theres still a rumor that the show at the studios may change after.

That would be too easy, and we can't have that.

Hmm... Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast potentially closing in DHS - any chance a ride would replace one of them?

Perhaps because identical rides always share the same name on both costs. The exceptions are Buzz Lightyear's Astro Blasters vs. Space Ranger Spin, Autopia vs. Tomorrowland Speedway and Soarin vs. Soarin' Over California. With Buzz Lightyear the rides are similar enough to validate having the same name. Soarin' is comparable to Little Mermaid where the exterior and queue theming will differ but the main ride is the same. Soarin' also makes far more sense than Little Mermaid.

Consider the following similar/identical rides that share the same name on both costs:
Jungle Cruise
Pirates of the Caribbean
The Haunted Mansion
Splash Mountain
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
Peter Pan's Flight
The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
it's a small world
Mad Tea Party
Space Mountain
Twilight Zone Tower of Terror
It's Tough to be a Bug
Toy Story Midway Mania
Captain EO
Turtle Talk with Crush
Star Tours
Fantasmic!
Snow White's Scary Adventures
Dumbo the Flying Elephant
The Enchanted Tiki Room

Supposedly the longer name came as a result between two separate factions involved in the project (hey, just like Midway Mania). One group wanted to name at least part of the attraction "Under the Sea," as a common link between the Little Mermaid theme and the attraction which was originally in its place, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. And of course, others wanted the attraction to actually have the name of the movie/character in its title. So the two were mashed together.
