Wow - 35 minutes from All Stars to Magic Kingdom?

A friend of mine booked his 1st onsite stay last night. They decided to stay at ASMovies. The Disney CM he spoke to laughed at him and said he was looking at at least a 35 minute ride on the bus. Have some of these CM's ever been to Disney? We all know that getting from ANY resort to a park by bus can take 35 minutes between waiting for a bus and drive time. But to mislead someone like that is just weird. Once on the bus, it's a 7-10 minute ride.

The funny thing was the CM was trying to convince him to stay in a cabin at FW (family of 5 - Got 2 rooms at All Stars.) From a cabin, they'd have to take an internal shuttle (or golf cart) to the marina, then wait for a boat and take a 15 minute boat ride to the MK.

Pretty sad that most of the people on this board know so much more about WDW than people who book the trips.

Well, the CM could have said it would be a 35-minute trip total and there have been a simple miscommunication between him and your friend.

Even still - As I said, it could be 35 minutes from any resort to any park (except for Epcot Resorts to Epcot and DHS and monorail resorts to MK). Sounds to me like he was trying to upsell him by scaring him. It's no secret that Value Resort bookings have been much higher than Moderates or Deluxes this year.

Well, it sound like perhaps the CM was more warning him about the potential travel times than anything else. Perhaps trying to upsell the resort as well....

But again, it could be like that for ANY of the resorts. In fact, in my experience, commute times are generally best from the Value Resorts.

I just find it very misleading. I also don't like the idea of upselling. It's one thing to call and ask a CM's opinion, but to book a resort, for them to try and change your mind, eh....I don't know. Booking a Disney trip shouldn't be like buying a car.

Well, not having been on the conversation, I couldn't say what the CM's intent was. Usually, however, they're not geared towards being purposefully devious.

I wouldn't say he was being "devious". I wasn't on the call either, so I obviously don't know for sure. If anything, he was giving bad info. I wouldn't exactly call it wrong, since it can indeed be 35 minutes (or more). But as a CM, he should know that's not specific to the All Star Resorts.

Well, not being on the call, the CM could have said that was a rough average for all of the (non-monorail) resorts, AS included. Hard to say in the end.....

Then why try and point them towards FW, the resort with arguably the slowest transportation on property?

Well, again without being on the call, the cabins are another option for a family of 5, including a full kitchen, that the AS rooms wouldn't have. The internal transportation to the marina doesn't take that long, nor does the boat to MK (particularly if you happen to rent a golf cart). And the transportation from FW to the other parks isn't any worse than from AS.

Again, the CM may have been trying to upsell him from a Value (or was just trying to be helpful and offer him more options for a party of 5), but in the end the transportation times wouldn't be that great a factor in such a decision. Not when they're all pretty much in line with one another (save, of course for the monorail resorts).

Or the caller just might have taken what the CM said the wrong way. I would be willing to bet that is the case. Nothing wrong with trying to up-sell as it is a business.

I didn't quote whoever said value transit was better than deluxe. All I have to say to that is :ROFLOL: Try again.

Fort Wilderness transit is fairly quick. There is almost always an outpost bus every five minutes or less. I have never waited there like I did to get from AS to DHS.

You can :ROFLOL: all you want, but it's certainly been my experience, as well as many others. The bus service at the Deluxe Resorts is notoriously bad, while the bus service at the Values is known to be better. I'd be willing to bet my next trip that if you ran a poll on here asking who had the better bus service, more people would vote for Values (if they've stayed at both.)

In fact, I started a thread about this a while back:

GF, Contempo, AKL, SSR, BWV, and Poly all have more regularly scheduled buses. I can only recall a handful of times in the past five years where there was an issue. Now when friends are a Value and I meet them. There is no regular schedule, five buses for one park can come back to back before the one you want. The wait can tally 30+ minutes at those easy. Each and every time I have been in a Value the bus issue has been there.

As far as starting a thread or poll, it is not scientific. There is no regulations as to who has and has not stayed at both nor method of verification. Data collection on the matter via that method would be so far off base it would hit Mars.

It can be the same at Deluxe Resorts. Just look at the other thread. My point was, just because you experience one thing, does not mean that is the way it is all the time.

Actually bus transit , bus being the key word, it at its worst at the majority of the deluxe resorts. In particular the monorail and the Epcot resorts. This is simply due to multiple stops and in the case of the monorail resorts, multiple stops that are quite far apart. By comparison Pop only has one stop and the All Stars have dedicated buses during peak hours. This cuts down on transportation time significantly.

Well he ended up stating what my point was, everyone can experience different things while there.

Maybe I have just gotten lucky all the times? Let's see if it continues for the nine night stay I have coming up.

People are arguing over second hand information that might be wrong or embellished somewhere along the way? HERE?

Now let's get back to what's really important - a DVC rep told me they're putting a couple of studios in the Castle! Discuss...

As Yoda said, this is primarily directed at the Monorail and Epcot Resorts. Animal Kingdom Lodge is in a different situation as they have their own bus.

My point was, you were making it out that to call the Value bus service better than the Deluxe Resorts was so ridiculous, when in reality, in most cases, it's the truth.

Well as I stated, that has been my own experience. In long lines at the end of the night it would seem the Values always get the short end of the stick. My observations are mainly from April 2009, May 2009, August 2009, December 2009, Feb 2010, May 2010, August 2010, December 2010, Feb 2011, May 2011, and August 2011. Each of those I have always noticed substantially longer lines for Value buses while never having a problem to OKY, BWV, AKL, and Contempo. That was at each park. Coincidence that I have seen it every trip while having no Deluxe issue? Maybe. But I found the EPCOT Resorts no worse than the multiple stop resorts, deluxe and moderate alike. Once again, just MY observations.
