Nabbed a few reservations that came open for my upcoming trip. Thoughts on the food at these places? Characters you saw?

1900 Park Fare - Breakfast
Akershus Royal Banquet Hall - Dinner
Tusker House - Lunch (going before characters become part of lunch)
Chef Mickey's - Dinner

1900PF- We've done breakfast there twice. The first time we had phenomenal food, service, and 3 out of 5 characters were excellent. The second time we went we had decent food (my pecan roll and smoked salmon were yum), four out of five characters were excellent, but the service was horrible. Both times we had Mary Poppins, Alice, Mad Hatter, Pooh and TIgger. Mad Hatter was the only total let down in both visits. This still remains one of our faves.

Akershus-We've done lunch and dinner here. The wait can be long if you wind up in between princess shifts, but we like it and our kids are big fans of the cold appetizer buffet. We've had yellow dress Belle as our photo princess both times and Sleeping Beauty, Ariel, Snow White and Cinderella as the mingling princesses both times. Service was also very good both times although check in can be tedious.

Tusker House- We've only done the character breakfast and it was HORRIBLE. Bad bad bad food. Food should not be dried out and nasty at 8:10am. Our service was far from stellar and while this is not an issue for your meal- this was the worst character intereaction we've ever had.

Chef Mickey's- We've done breakfast and dinner. The character interaction was better for us at dinner vs breakfast - although I think this is really just luck. The big thing-- the dinner food is awful. I mean, the only thing we liked were the mashed potatoes. The breakfast food was much MUCH better and the service was good both times we went. Even with the bad food, we'd still go back b/c it's worth the experience. And this was fab 5 both times. :D

1900 Park Fare - We have gone twice and both times were character breakfasts. Each time food was better than average (but, IMO, not as good as Ohana's or Tusker House, although all were essentially the same breakfast foods) and service was not bad. Characters were good the first time; much better the second time. First time my son wasn't much into the characters (Mad Hatter, Alice, Mary Poppins, Pooh, and Tiger) and they weren't very talkative. However in their defense, the first time it was crazy busy. The second time Mary Poppins and Alice spent more than a few minutes with my son. He was smitten and very excited to talk to them. We will be going back on our next visit.

Tusker House - We have gone twice and both were character breakfasts. Both times food was great, service was great (despite being crazy busy), and characters (Donald Duck, Goofy, Daisy Duck, and a couple that I don't remember) were also very good. We will be going back on our next visit.

Chef Mickey's - We have gone twice and both were character dinners. Both times food was pretty good (salmon was great second time there). Service was great first time, sub-par second time. Characters (Mickey and for some reason, I can't remember the others) spent a fair amount of time at our table. We will be going back on our next visit.

1900, we only did for dinner. The characters then are great, food is good. Wicked stepsisters are hilarious.
Akershus we did twice. characters are pretty good, and I enjoyed the food. DW, not loving the food. probably won't be back.
Tusker we did for lunch. I wasn't too impressed, but DW Liked it.
Chef Mickey we did breakfast and dinner. Food to me was better at breakfast. Characters are good for both.

1900 Park Fare - we enjoyed the characters & the food (breakfast).
Our service was good. Our children were pretty young when we went. I wish I had gone LATER in the morning ... they are not early risers.

Chef Mickey's twice - once for breakfast & once for dinner. Both experiences were great! We enjoyed the peel & eat shrimp at dinner. Service was good. They did bring out a cupcake for my daughter on our last visit - she was celebrating graduating highschool ... it was very sweet as they were CRAZY busy! Characters were very social.

Tusker House is next on my list - lunch with the characters

Have a great trip

Thank you all for the replies - the information is beyond helpful when I am weeks away from arriving at "Planet Mickey". :)

I think the goal with Chef Mickey's (and all restaurants) is to keep trying. Booked 2 Chef Mickey dinners this week with a month away from the trip!

1900 Park Fare - mostly standard breakfast fare except for the strawberry soup which was to-die-for. I had 4 bowls! The Mad Hatter was a hoot, and it was nice to see Mary Poppins and Alice in Wonderland along with Tigger and Pooh. The kids enjoyed decorating their Mickey pancakes with Mnms, etc., here.

Akershus - Our dinner here was by far the worst food we've had in Disney (some of us are picky eaters but some are not). That said, the character interactions with all those princesses made this a favorable experience for our children. I've heard the breakfast fare is OK.

Tusker House - We've had the character breakfast here. It was fine, but I wouldn't rush back.

Chef Mickey's - Haven't tried it yet.

Chef mickeys for Breakfast now three times and gotta say its gone down in quality each time. Juts not thrilled with it anymore. Liked Tusker but the walk away winner now is Crystal Palace for breakfast. Love Love Love it. Characters are Pooh and Friends and its roomy and beautiful and the food is tremendous.

My four year old LOVES Pooh. Gonna keep checking Crystal Palace the next few weeks before we leave and see if something opens up. Right now everything is booked solid.

I decided to drop Akershus and Tusker (lunch) in favor of moving Epcot to a different day and nabbing a Tusker (breakfast) instead.

The Tusker breakfast is at 8 AM, but the park doesn't open until 9 AM. Not sure how that works. Will the bus still take us to AK even though it isn't open? We are staying at Coronado Springs.

Back from WDW!Counting down to DLP in November!

Yep there will be an early bus that picks up especially for breakfast! Loved this breakfast, all the faves plus some tasty unique items :slurp:

the one thing i would recommend about Tusker's breakfast is to make sure you have plenty of patience, since the line for donald can be quite hectic (depending on the staff who ensures that things keep moving, which can sometimes be borderline rude when it comes to keeping the line moving)

1900PF- Bkfst was very good. Characters spent more time with my kids there than any other CM.
Chef Mickeys- food ok. Really Loud!!!. Somewhat frenetic. Kids liked it but level of activity prevented them form eating much. They were too distracted and I had to get them snacks later.

Our last trip was Aug. 2010. We went to 1900 for the first time. Was not impressed. The food was ok (standard breakfast fare) but it seemed very crowded (hard to walk from your table to the buffet) and the buffet line took forever to get through. Just seemed like the "traffic pattern" wasn't very well thought out!
We've been to Chef Mickey's almost every trip since our first in 1999. We've been for dinner and breakfast. It's always been a favorite, but this last trip we went for our birthday breakfast (DD 21 and me . . . over 21!) and were really disappointed in the quality of the entire experience. Eggs looked like they'd been sitting out for hours, Micky waffles were like hockey pucks, and the CMs seemed too busy to give that extra Disney magic that we've always gotten in the past. Not a terrible experience (we did each get birthday cupcakes - at 8am . . . shutter:veryconfu), and it's still the best way to spend time with Mickey and friends, but has certainly gone down a few notches. Couldn've just been the day.

September:

Tusker House breakfast was terrible. Bad service, characters were pretty indifferent and non-interactive, food was "meh" at best aside from the hairy doughnut my oldest had the good fortune of finding, and the atmosphere was loud & chaotic. Pretty disappointing given the many awesome breakfasts we've had in the past. I doubt we go back but that's mostly because we seem to be outgrowing the character meals. Our preferences seem to be shifting more towards good food and enjoyable atmosphere vs. characters. Unfortunately it seems this is now a choice of experiences rather than all of the above combined.
