Are they not looking out for the park visitors who where young and inspired by the attractions of yesteryear??? Those days of Epcot Center made me look into the future with a vision that there was something grandiose to look forward to...Where are you Future World??? Is Pandora our future???

Unfortunately, there is money to be made from Avatar, and no money in re-creating Horizons.

What money-making? Two years since release and people rarely talk about it anymore and when they do, it's almost always in a mocking context. Iger and Staggs picked the wrong outside franchise.

Quite right. On top of which, ANY outside franchise is wrong for WDW in my opinion - especially when there are Disney films and characters largely unrepresented in the parks. And besides, what happened to Beastly Kingdom?

Man..so true. I'm sick and tired of hearing about it and think it's become a ridiculous go to crutch to find something negative to say about WDW. To question everything the park does simply because it isn't bringing back a let's face it, dated attraction is flat out ridiculous. Horizons was great but it was closed, get over it please.

It wasn't a theme park then. Remember the reason why people flooded to see the film? The visuals allowed people to escape to another world. With theme park magic, they'll literally be able to explore this world. That will make money. This alone is one of the reasons the Wizarding World is so popular.

To answer your question, Disney is concerned about two things: Making money and continuing their creative legacy of imagineering attractions. Disney likes to claim they embrace their legacy of futurism at Epcot. They update Innoventions from time to time and they have a great sponsor in Spaceship Earth. They think they can slap the name Epcot on that.

It's still a great park with many great highlights but the company isn't going to expand it in ways that would do this world's fair justice. If it's making them a solid profit now, they don't need to build a new Horizons, or build a ride in Japan and cruise in Germany, or gut Ellen out of Universe of Energy. Avatar is the answer to Animal Kingdom's future. It's the perfect solution to that park in both theme and possible profit.

You do know that Pandora is proposed for DAK right? Not EPCOT.

Horizons has run its course. It is history. Sure it was probably great (never rode it), But Walt always wanted the parks to grow, and evolve. Avatar seems exciting to me, and cannot wait to follow its construction as I have with WWoHP and FLE.

Therefore his quote: "I do not like to repeat successes, I like to go on to other things." Bad for those who defend their favourites for preservation, but for some apparent reason, if the Pandora universe has such potential, then we'll see what we've got.

I get what you are saying and I am truly excited to see the final product on this Pandora thing but while Walt Disney did want to evolve his parks and see them grow I really don't think he understood that he nor his parks would become a legend. He may not have fully grasped that some of his first attractions would hold such an endearing quality behind them. IMHO, I think that if he did he would ask that they be left alone and the other smaller, less loved attractions be removed to make way for the future and IaSW, PP Flight, Dumbo, Jungle Cruise, CoP, PotC, etc... would all stay if it were up to him. Other things would have been removed to make way for expansion and growth though.
