Hi guys....ive seen a few things about packing with Space Saver Bags and I was wondering if I should worry about using them while flying.....would there be any instances where they would have to open the bags and then my suitcase would trashed? Im not planning on using them so i can pack MORE, i just want to save some room for a few souvenirs on the way back and im also bringing stuff with to decorate a room surprise for our DD6.....thoughts?

There are some space saver bags that do not need a vacuum to remove air - they have a one way vent on the bottom of the bag, and you seal the bag, then "roll" it, thereby squeezing out the air.

I've found that 2 gallon size zip loc bags work almost as well. Just put the items in, then zip it almost completely. Then you sit on it, and roll your hip to squeeze the air out, then finish zipping it. It flattens it pretty well.

I put one outfit in each bag - makes it easy to get dressed in the morning, and things stay neat in the suitcase. Also protects from any spills in transit.

I've used those bags before in my checked bags without issue. This time I will be using them in carry-on. I don't expect to have problems. They can easily be sealed well without a vacuum, however, I do have a small electric pump that I plan to pack with me to close it up for my return trip. With the space I would be saving it will still make sense.

I used to individualy bag my kids clothes like that whenever we'd travel. It's a real timesaver in the mornings, and saves the arguing about what shirt matches what shorts, etc. They'd each have a drawer in the dressers where I'd put their bags, then at the end of the day, the dirties would go back in the ziplocks, then into the suitcase.

When they outgrew the one gallon size, I switched to the two gallon ones, which are perfect for adult sized outfits. If I don't want to limit things that much, I have packing cubes where I pack all of my pants in one, then another with all of my sweaters, and another with tops, and so on. That way I can mix and match on a daily basis.

Well, since my "baby" will be 22 this week, I don't have to worry about the mismatched kid clothes anymore :lookaroun , but I still pack my own stuff by outfits, with a few extra substitutions.
