So we have our trip planned for Thanksgiving and I'm just not at all excited about it:brick:. As a Fl Res, we've been there countless times and for the amount of money we spend, we could take an awesome vacation just about anywhere else. DS is now old enough (9) that travel is more of an adventure than a hassle and I love adventure! But the trip is booked and we are going, so I need your help....help me get excited about this trip!

I think as it gets closer, and particularly when you arrive, you will change your mind. I cannot imagine someone walking around at WDW thinking "Geez, I really wish I were at home, or lying on a boring beach somewhere". :lookaroun
You will have a great time....

So what changed your mind then? I can relate to it to an extent. In 2009 there had been a long gap between trips for me. I was 29 and this was the first time my wife was going to go. I was pumped for the trip all the way up until the time when we left. But then I told myself "Look, its been a while since you've been here and you are grown up now. Don't be disapointed if things change and it just doesn't feel the same anymore."

Put it this way, once we got off the plane in Orlando and we started driving to our resort, that "feeling" came back instantly. I knew right then that nothing had changed and never will.

So that's my advice to you I guess. But since you are a Florida resident maybe you are a little more ho-hum about it than someone else who lives far away? Maybe a trip to Disneyland would be better, or a trip to the Caribbean for some relaxing time. I live two hours away from Niagara Falls and while that's a dream for many to travel there I go there annually. I think I take it for granted a bit. Now WDW is much better than the Falls but you get the point. Maybe living too close to it doesn't give you the same feeling?

I agree, and hope that once the trip gets closer for you, the feeling will come back. I know when we book, it always seems so far out and I think of everything we have between now and then. Not to mention the money that we will be putting into things etc. But the closer I get, the more excited I get. And when you get on property. Hold on...I hope it returns and you will be able to enjoy it even if your questioning it at the moment.

Am not sure if you have been around that time or not. But one thing to look forward to is the Christmas deco. that will be up. No matter what it it time spent with the family so that is something to cherish. And if your DS is into adventure then see about getting him into the Pirate Adventure. It is for kids only age 4-12 cost around $37 and lasts about 2 hours. That would give you two time alone and he gets a nice memory. We did it for our DD a long time ago and she had a great time. And maybe having something special for him will help boost your feelings about the trip.

You should watch a Disney film a day leading up to the trip, seeing the characters and the amazing movies could get you excited.

This could work BUT I was thinking just the opposite.

Put Disney on a back burner for a week or two ... don't even think about it!

It's like being on a diet ... you deprive yourself of all things yummy for awhile then you start to crave for them!!!

I have been there (ironically not that long ago)!

Hope the magic comes back to you

Maybe think of some things to do you have never done before.
For every trip we take I have a list of new things to do, even if its the littlest thing. For instance, I need to search out that old phone on Main Street and listen in on the conversation. My daughter wants to play those games in the railroad station. We briefly played them and then the train came and of course off we went. Now I wished we would have waited for the next train, like they say you have to stop and smell the roses. We plan to design our own Mickey hats, run in the family 5K Fri Jan 6, ride Tower of Terror in the dark(never done, daughter's idea) etc. I have found by making a list it sure keeps things exciting after 21 trips.
I'm sure you will be excited by the time the trip gets here and you get to pull out those suitcases!
