"Snacks" on counter service

We (incl myself & husband 41y, 5y son) got quick service dining. What does snack mean? I've seen it can be a piece of fruit or fountain drink.... but what about snacks from places like Main Street Bakery or other quick service locations?

There is no concrete, one size fits all definition of a "snack" on the Dining Plan. But there are some general criterion (just keep in mind that "general" means that there are exceptions). One such criterion is that it is usually around $5 or less. Things such as the ice cream products from those carts that you see here and there. Pretzels, box of popcorn, piece of fruit. And yes, as you mentioned, certain pastry items. I have used snack allowances at the bakery in the Norway pavilion before. Or at the resort food court, you can often find a donut, muffin, or other such pastry available as a snack credit.

Like I said, no one can give you an exact formula of what counts as a snack and what doesn't. But look for that square dining plan symbol next to the item on the menu to see if it can be used as a snack or not.

When I was there in May I was told pretty much anything under $5 could be bought using one of your snacks. Like mentioned above, look at the price tags on the shelves to see if it has the little snack picture on it.

I did get a bunch of stuff from the main street bakery with my snack plan btw.

Also just so you know, you can spend all of your snacks in one day if you want, whether it's your first day or last day. Just saying this so you don't think you have to spread them evenly each day or you will lose them. Your whole meal plan doesn't expire until mid night the day you check out.

The only things that Disney will guarantee as a "snack" are the items listed on the official brochure, which are items available just about everywhere: ice cream novelty (mickey ear bars, etc), fruit, bottled soda and water, fountain drink, coffee, bag of chips.

Anything else that is available as a Snack is set by the individual location. As mentioned in previous posts, those are *generally* single-serving snack-like items under $5 (though most are under $4). But that's far from an exact criteria to use. At one time Flame Tree BBQ offered a basket of onion rings for around $4 that you could get with a Snack, but a cheaper basket of french fries you couldn't.

The main thing to do, also previously mentioned, is to look for the purple-and-white DDP logo on the menus next to items that can be purchased with a Snack credit.

And one side note in terms of using the credits, if you're using both a Snack credit and a Quick Service meal credit at the same time, they'll have to be rung up by the CM separately. It's a quirk/requirement of the cash register system that only one type of DDP credit be used in each transaction.

Some other examples: A chocolate and caramel covered strawberry at Karamel Kuche in the Germany Pavillion of EPCOT is a snack. The caramel apples are not.
The ice cream sandwich at Main Street Bakrey is a snack but the same thing at the Fountainview in EPCOT is not (weird, huh).

My personal favorite - a Dole Whip - is a snack :slurp:

Not sure when y ou're going, but you can use your Snack credits to buy food at the kiosks at the Food & Wine Festival as well.

I may be wrong, but aren't there a few "snacks" here and there that are actually 6 or 7 dollars (hence the emphasis on the $5 price range being a *general* rule of thumb and not an absolute requirement)?

The ice cream sandwich at the Main Street Bakery is about $6, I believe.

Some of the resort gift stores will also take snack credits for things like boxed candy, bags of pretzels, chocolate, etc. But once again, you need to look for the logo as its not completely consistent.

I have a link to an extensive snack list on another discussion forum, but I'm not quite sure of the 'rules' or etiquette regarding posting links to othe boards. So, I will wait until someone on here 'in the know' lets me know if that's cool, or a complete 'no-no'. Have to respect Steve and this site. :)
