makes me mad

It seems like that Walt Disney World is becoming nothing but character meet-&-greets. A entire attraction (Snow White's Scary Adventures) is being replaced by a meet-&-greet. Is anyone annoyed by this?

Given that I've never done a M&G and always manage to keep very busy while at WDW, I think you're over-stating your case just a tad.

I don't think it really makes much sense to gut SWSA just because they're building another Snow White themed attraction. Seems like sort of a waste.

Disney is just giving people what they want. From my understanding management is not all that fond of them either. As it was expand to me, meet n greets have horrible guest per hour numbers and high labor costs when compared to attractions.

I still don't understand why Disney didn't just take Pleasure Island and turn it into "Disney's Meet & Greet Island". They could charge $40 a head, in 3-5 years the revenue would completely pay for the rethemeing of the buildings, it would give a reason for 3rd parties to actually want to lease on the Westside and it would lessen the strain for M&Gs in the actual parks. A character meal restaurant as a centerpiece would make a mint.

It's everything modern day Disney loves. It's cheap. It would require almost no effort. The characters could be cycled in and out as popularity dictates. And it would allow them to charge a premium for something the basically give away for free now.

As a customer and Disney fan, I hate the idea. But the reasons I hate it is exactly the reasons TDO would want to do it.

For whatever reason Magic Kingdom has a poor way of not being able to use their space properly. The skyway is empty and not being used for anything new which makes for a lot of space in Fantasyland and Tomorrowland. Mr. Toad flew the coop in favour of Pooh when both attractions could have co-existed and now Snow White is gone and it is yet another attraction where we have to travel to California to see.

Sure the Mine Ride will be better, but if they have two attractions on the grounds for Finding Nemo then why not Snow White which is the most important movie in the company's history?

A meet and greet should never replace a ride. It is truly a poor decision from the higher execs

One of the biggest pleasures I've had over the years of bringing my children and pretty soon my grand children is to watch their faces as they finally get to "meet and greet" the characters they've watched in movies and on t.v. for years (basicly since they were born) and to act like they should be relegated to some back corner where they don't "bother" anyone is an insult to the reason that Walt Disney created these places. I'm sorry if you don't like them, but then maybe you should just avoid the areas where they happen. You wouldn't be bothered by them. ( and also don't book character meals, there are plenty of other choices if you don't want the characters bothering you, but for me and my family, we adore them and have as much fun interacting with them as we do enjoying the great food):):(

I cannot say that I am happy about the replacement but I do have a different perspective on the M&G. When I did not have kids they did seem like a huge waste of time but now that I have a two year old my opinion has changed a bit. Nothing can replace the big smile on his face when he sees Mickey or Pooh.

However, I think the character meals can be a bit much at times. I think that the castle should have stayed as it was. King Stefans was the only place in MK where you could sit down to a nicer TS adult meal.

I love the characters and think they're an intergral part of the parks. I'm not a huge fan of the way meet and greets are set up, they're very rushed and I think a lot of the fun is lost when the characters are having to love and shove in order to keep wait times reasonable. But I do see the need for an organized time and location set up for the characters. Personally I love the dance parties and find them much more enjoyable.
It's just that meet and greets seem like the sort of things that don't require a ton of space. If Disney really wanted to they could have meet and greets coming out of their ears without needing to expand anything. But then we have to take into account how much easier it is to have the characters indoors because they can stay out longer which requires less breaks and less CM's not to mention inclement weather. Plus there's the theming of the areas like with Pixie Hollow.
I wish they would just leave SWSA as is and spread out the meet and greets. More like they do when they have special events like MNSSHP or MVMCP.

You wouldn't like a themed centralized location where all of the characters would be available for half the price of a park ticket?

That doesn't seem like it would make economical sense considering the same people who like meet and greets also like the park itself. So then they would be paying to go to the park and to meet the characters. Which wouldn't go over very well compared to paying once for both. I don't think anyone would bypass the parks in favor of just meet and greets.

Yes, but just think of the joy some will get by getting the wee ones out of the park.....

I'm not the biggest fan of M&G's, i'd rather characters just be out and about than to designate areas just for them. That's just my opinion though.

I love it love it love it when people pull out the "Walt would be offended" card, as if any of us have any idea whatsoever.

This strategy just isn't possible any more. The fact is, when this used to be the case, the flash mob mentality would kick in and the poor girl in the Mickey costume would get trampled to death on a regular basis. The change was necessary due to guest behavior, not some evil ploy by management to make money.

Some of the things that have been annoying me about WDW lately? The lack of new, original ideas/attractions and the mess that is Downtown Disney would top my list. And while I do enjoy and appreciate PIXAR, I'm getting kind of tired of seeing it all over the parks. Especially at EPCOT. Character meet and greets I could take or leave.
