Why no HD tv in the deluxe resorts!?

This is ridiculous when your paying 300+ a night for a room you should have hd tv. They all have lg 32 inch lcd or plasmas, but no hd. It's ridiculous to me that they don't have hd. I know that TDO thinks if they go HD people will stay in their rooms more. B/S!

Why.....so the "reserved for future use" channels could look a little crisper? Disney hands down has the worst cable.....ever. Centre Video in Dormont, Pa had a better selection in 1978....and they offered 15 channels then....I get drunk each night before bed so i don't even have to worry about what I'm going to fall asleep to....which makes Disney a little richer...so proof their plan works.

I have to agree. The only thing I really hate about a Disney resort stay is the crappy cable. I would give anything for just a Discovery Channel package being added.

Cost and need. The rooms were refurbed more than 5 years ago, so the need for hdtvs was not there at that time; the extra cost for the hd capacity would be wasteful for the 3,000+ units that were ordered.

The last thing I want to do when on vacation in Disney is sit in a hotel room and watch TV. All I look for in accommodations is a minimum amount of comfort and cleanliness and proximity and ease of access to all the attractions. Pop Century fits that bill very well.

Thus the reason your children are teased with "you don't get no ice cream..." at school....

Amen!

Even for the little while that I'm in the room (and that includes Deluxe Villas), I either leave the TV off or let Stacey tell me all about property over...and over...and over.

Of course, I can't speak for everyone. There are plenty of people who go just to relax and stay in the room (perhaps older parents who just want to buy tickets for the kids while they hang out). But that's why they have hundreds of restaurants, spas, water sports, golf courses and other recreation.

Disney owns most of the channels that actually play on the resort TV network (i.e. ABC, ABC Family, ESPN's, Disney Channel, resort loops, etc), so it's essentially "free" for them to replay them. Plus, they offer DVD rentals at the Deluxe Villa Resorts (and even have DVD players in some Deluxe Rooms).

When it comes to amenities (not theme park attractions), they really do listen to guest feedback. So, the fact that their cable selection is so poor is probably a sign that guest feedback has not indicated a strong desire for more channels. Those wishing for more TV in their Disney hotel room are in the minority.

Agreed, the only thing I could see them do in the future is add a customized apple tv.

The only thing I watch when I'm in Disney is the WDW information channel. Where they have all the promotional videos. Anything else takes me out of the experience and I want to live and breath Disney while I'm there.

Sometimes after the Parks close and the the fireworks are over. People go back to their rooms and are not ready for lights out. In these times I personally would like a larger channel selection. I don't think that everyone bringing this up is skipping the pool or the Parks just in hopes of watching TV.

I'd rather seem them put the money into transportation. The biggest disappointment we had at the deluxe resorts was the bus sharing...mostly at AK.

My guess is that the coax cable that was initially installed in the resorts is of too low a grade to carry HD signals.

That would mean that they would have to pull all new cable EVERYWHERE in order to get HD signals to the rooms.

Not to mention upgrading all the hardware that distributes the signals between the rooms.

I doubt we'll see HD anytime in the near future at Disney resorts.

Me too. I want to block the real world completely out when I'm there. I don't want any news coming in and ruining my time. I don't want to hear about the weather back home (heck, we learned about the recent midwest ice storm from CMs who asked where we were from, then commented on the weather back here in Indiana). I saturate my environment with Disney when I'm there, which is why I go.

When we get back to the room and it's not time for bed, we sit on the balcony, or walk around the resort, or jot down the day's activities for a trip report, or download our pics to the computer. All with the resort loop playing in the background.

Their cabling can probably handle it (since phone lines can handle the bandwidth required for HD), but their equipment can't.

I love HD, but even if I watched TV at Disney, I could probably survive with SD for a week.

As for the people saying "Who needs it?", that's not your place to say. If someone wants to spend the money at an expensive hotel, the hotel should at least give them the option of decent television. What fits one needs, doesn't anothers.

The answer as someone else already pointed out - Disney, during the day, wants you in the parks spending money. At night, they want you either at the parks, or at DTD or the hotel lounge, spending money.

I'm one of those people who agrees, Disney TV offerings in the resorts is a joke. We just bring our own DVD player and movies if we feel like a night in, or the kids want to watch something before bed.
