American Idol Experience reduces the number of shows per day and gets new schedule

Not surprising at all... we are in the off season and there are fewer contestants. This will likely be changed once we get into peak season again... though they might keep it if the light show takes people away from it.

Is there a certain amount of years that Disney is required to keep AIE running before they can replace it with another attraction?

Is this from a lack of audience at the shows? If it is maybe we can get more weekly showings of f!

I believe it has been a real struggle generating enough interest from people to actually try out for the show. They have been doing park-wide announcements, billboards, cast at the turnstyles, signage all over the place. I'm actually surprised it's been so difficult. I really expected a lot of people to want to give it a go.

I think Disney expected this as well with the whole are that they built up for tryouts. However, I guess people don't want to put themselves on the line like that when they are on vacation. Also, the prize really isn't anything special. I think that if they want to boost attendance and get people to give up a portion of their day that they are paying a high price for, they should offer something better. A fast pass to try out for a dying franchise (that only a certain age demograpic can actually use) isn't really all that appealing.

I agree. Give the contestants a couple FPs for the park that day since they are taking out so much of their day. Atleast for TSMM and some of the other headliners.

Exactly. Even if I could sing (which I can't) I've got very little incentive to give up a big part of my expensive vacation day to participate in this. Especially since I fall outside of the age restriction for the show.

Anyone who participates in the show should get some FPs at a minimum.

It would have been easier if they'd actually made this back when American Idol was...you know...THE THING? Didn't this open not long after the 7th or 8th season?

This is the problem with building an attraction on a property that has no guarantee of lasting value.

Disney has a tendency to do that recently. They hop on to a concept when it has already peaked and then wonder why it isn't bringing in the crowds. Who wants to be a millionare was similar, but had a broader appeal since everyone could play. They also gave out legit prizes if you happened to make it to the hot seat and do well.

I agree...give us some FPs or some other prize like Millionaire.

Doing this last fall did take up most of the day, so we ended up missing some attractions and an ADR.

But it was still fun!!!

I think anyone who makes it thru the audition process deserves a round of Fastpasses for them and their family. For the winner, in addition to the FPs, if Fantasmic was still shown every night, they could have given them a free Fantasmic dinner package. Basically you'd get a free dinner and you would get prime seats for Fantasmic. I think that would have been a decent prize; I certainly wouldn't mind the free dinner.

i never went in this... i don't even watch the shows at home so i had no interest in participating or watching. besides, who wants to make an idiot out of themselves while they are on holiday? come on disney!

they could do with scrapping that, 'sounds dangerous' next door too. what the hell that was, i do not know, but i know that it was a waste of 20 minutes!

that's actually the fun of it...watching other people make fools out of themselves on vacation. It's the same appeal of karaoke on a cruise.

i think it's a combination of things...

1. guests don't want to sacrifice their vacation time on one attraction

2. guests don't want to be embarrassed and or come away with the feeling of being the "loser"

3. can't find enough people to audition

i'd rather be "that guy" on MILF than be the loser on AIE

This was only a matter of time. I enjoyed this show in the few times that I saw it, but it definitely does not have staying power. Having said that, my guess is it will last for as long as the TV show.

I think we might be stuck with the show long after the TV show goes away.
