Rock 'n' Rollercoaster Onboard Audio

When Rock 'n' Rollercoaster first opened, I remember the onboard music being as loud as a real rock concert. For the last several years, however, the music has been significantly softer, and often choppy and not even loud enough to overpower people's screams.

Well, it seems they have put it back at the original volume. The last few visits, the music volume has been LOUD! Like, "you can't talk to the person next to you" loud. AND IT SOUNDS AMAZING!!! You can also once again feel the subwoofer bass in your seat.

Thank you, Disney, for turning the volume UP, for once! Lets hope it stays this way.

Not old, just vintage.

When was the last refurb anyways? I'm just curious because I don't recall if the volume was louder on my recent visit but I did have a very unpleasant experience with the roughness of the ride. My head got knocked around so much I thought I was going to pass out by the time I got to unload. I've never encountered that feeling before on any roller coaster.

It was actually a power supply problem to the amplifiers, not as simple as just a volume control.
I seem to remember reading or hearing, though, that a while ago, the volume was reduced due to complaints or something.

I could be wrong, but the music is definitely the loudest it has been in the last several years.

Funny story...my wife and I got to enjoy RRC during unannounced previews many years ago on a visit. We exited TOT and a CM asked if we wanted to try the new roller coaster. Of course we said Yes! When we rode, my wife thought it was awesome, but I was disappointed. When we got off, she commented on how cool the loud music was. I had only heard faint music because the speakers on my seat didn't work. Since it was previews, they were polling us on the ride and I let them know about the audio. So, for me, any volume above background noise was great the past few visits!

I once rode it and the music didn't work at all. I couldn't believe how lame the ride was then. The music really adds to the experience.

We heard a track that appeared to be new yesterday. I didn't recognize the song, but have the audio tracks changed? I feel that I haven't heard the track that ends with "Love in a Roller Coaster" in quite some time, yet we had a track that begin with Love in an Elevator yesterday (and I know I've heard that same track before).

I also feel the ride is much rougher than it was before. It seems to jerk more than it use to. As far as volume to me it's just as loud as it ever was. I didn't notice any difference in the volume levels.

For whatever reason, roller coasters made by Vekoma, RNRC manufacturer, do not age well. It honestly is amazing how good of shape Disney has kept the track in when it is compared to other Vekomas out there. It does seem that the roughness is starting to show on RNRC which is a real shame. Hopefully it is minor and can be fixed in whenever the next refurb is.

Just putting this as a general question to anyone, what would cause a roller coaster to become rougher as the years go by? I can't imagine its the track pieces; does it have something to do with gears or joints or something?

Sorry, I'm not well versed in roller coaster lingo, but I am curious as to why they become rougher over time.

From what I know the tracks you hear vary depending on which limo you ride in, but I think they all end in the tunnel with "Love on a Roller Coaster". It could just be that you hadn't ridden in that limo for some time.

How often do you ride? I ride it probably at least once a month, and have been for the last several years. It is, without question, louder than it was in previous years.

I've noticed that Rock 'n' Rollercoaster alternates between being very smooth and somewhat rough. This is could be due to how recently that train's wheels were replaced. Roller coaster train wheels actually do get worn down and need to be replaced every so often. The more worn down they get, the more of a gap there is between the wheel and the track. This is one thing that can cause roughness. Also I believe I've read somewhere that the wheels on launched coaster trains wear out faster than non-launched coasters, but I could be wrong.

Even at Rock 'n' Rollercoaster's most rough points, its still much smoother than most similar roller coasters at other parks.
