Indiana Jones - Need a ride, or keep the show?

When it comes to the Indiana Jones Stunt Show I have to admit that I enjoy it, but it's getting to be very stale. There's practically nothing ever that's changed about it. On the other hand I hear a lot of very good things about the Indiana Jones ride out in Disneyland.

Should they do away with the stunt show in favor of a ride?

The INDIANA JONES ADVENTURE AT DL IS A M A Z I N G! I don't think they should bring the ride though. We already have a EMV in DINOSAUR. If they bring a Indy ride it needs to be something else. A mine coaster?

Yeah, as much as I loved the Indy ride over at DL it's way too similar to Dinosaur as Grizzly said. The show's fine and there are always going to be people lining up to see it, but I wouldn't mind seeing an actual ride built to rival DL's. I really enjoyed it and I'm not even an Indy fan.

Its not similar to Dinosaur AT ALL. Honestly, I don't get this arguement. Same ride system and layout don't make a similar ride experience. In terms of experience they're completely different.

But you're right in the fact that we don't have the clone it exactly. The Disney Sea version of the ride is themed to the crystal skull (though not related to the fourth movie), a Mayan theme instead of a India theme, and new encounters like a giant tornado and evil statue that blows fire rings. WDW's version could make changes along the lines of this.

The stunt show still attracts the Guests, but if it hasn't been updated since park opening, I believe it may be time to change some of it up.

I'd love to see an Indy EMV attraction, but I'd rather see it in Adventureland than at the Studios. I'd also like to have it different than Disneyland's version to help alleviate the inevitable "Disneyland's version is better!" comparisons.

The stunt show is great despite its low replay value. Keep it and put Indy at AL.

But you're right in the fact that we don't have the clone it exactly. IMO If the attraction is EXCELLENT it should be exclusive to that place so it would encourage visits to different Disney parks (except mattehorn that needs to be mk lol). It should be themed to te mine car chase in Temple of Doom since the theme of the Studios is movies. Also I would miss the rolling ball that DL has. It's the best part lol.

The Indy stunt show is excellent. Much better than Lights, Motors, Snorefest.


The problem with cloning the Indy ride is Dinosaur. Maybe if they sufficiently reworked the ride it could work in WDW. Two EMV attractions are fine, provided they offer different experiences.

In an ideal world, they'd clone the Indy coaster from DisneySea / Paris too. I simply love anything Indiana Jones. :animwink:

Seriously, if I didn't know Indy and Dinosaur had the same layouts and rode both rides back to back, never in a million years would I guess they had the same layouts.

That's what I was thinking too. Have the main Indy ride, then have a "Raging Spirits" coaster next to it and you have an Indy mini land. Cool huh?

I'm pretty sure someone mentioned this on another post, but a so-called "Lucas Land" as part of Hollywood Studios would be amazing. It is absolutely depressing that WDW is the only Disney resort (minus HKDL) that doesn't have an Indiana Jones ride. Though a Crystal Skull themed temple could be interesting, considering the fact that most of the (good) Indiana Jones movies took place in Egypt or a similar desert setting, wouldn't a temple themed off of the monuments of Egypt be a great way to add some level of exclusivity should the ride come to DHS. Plus the fact that many of the Star Wars movies took place in a desert setting (incidentally both films were filmed at the same location in Tunisia) would add some level of cohesiveness to a Lucas Land. Mos Eisley Space port anyone? A Cantina themed restaurant? The new Star Tours does have a pod race scene... :shrug:

At all? It's the same ride system and layout, as you said. The themes obviously is what sets these apart, but they are a lot alike.

There wouldn't be a problem, but what makes attractions unique is how they're all (mostly) different from one another. Why build one in another's image? We're talking about Disney here. There's no need for the brains behind their operations to clone an attraction that already exists.

You didn't like Temple of Doom? Good point about Star Tours and Body Wars being together. Idk but everytime I see TOD I would love to see that mine chase scene incorporated.

I enjoy the show but it's getting old. Need a ride. How many actual rides are there? Tower Of Terror, Rock N Roll, Toy Story Mania? Star Tours is getting shut down.

GMR and BLT(not counting the Harbor Attack sequence) are the other rides. Making it a total of 6 rides.

I would have voted for:

*update the show and then bring on the ride too.

But if I had to choose I would opt for the ride instead of the stunt show.

I too say get rid of the show and give us the ride. I would prefer something different than DL's though, just because I like DL having unique rides/attractions and the Indy ride, which is absolutely amazing, is one of them.

However, I don't agree with not cloning the Indy ride because of Dinosaur being similar. If you can have 3 dumbos in one park, and 4 through out all of WDW, then 2 completely different themed emvs isn't gonna hurt nothing.

There is one big argument against replacing the stunt show with the ride: Cost. But other than that, the ride is the better business choice.

Consider:

The Stunt Show has a big cast, most of whom make a higher pay grade than the average attractions CM. Not to mention the extra liability involved in the stunts. Possibly the ride maintenance budget is higher than the show's, but not by much.

Rides have higher repeat value, due to the fact that audiences feel like more of a participant if they are moving through something and having things happen to them, rather than sitting on their butts watching something happen to others.

The Indy Theater holds about 2000 people per show. The Indy Ride moves about 2400 an hour. The ride clearly has a capacity advantage, even more so when you consider only about 5 stunt shows are performed daily (if that).

A continuously running ride that does not require highly skilled entertainment performers can keep people in the parks after dark. Almost all of the Studio's shows are done by 5:00. Having more things to do at night keeps people on property (i.e. spending money).

A continuously moving ride eliminates the famine/flood problem. Every time a Stunt Show lets out, 2000 people descend into the park, flooding the other lines.

The merchandising opportunities are greater for a ride. The "I Survived" t-shirts, the on-board photos, etc.

You already have 2 versions of the ride to pick from (Disneyland's and Tokyo's), so your design costs are minimal. It's basically just the construction cost.

You do lose space for events like the cheerleading competition and such, but just move them to WWoS.

You already have another stunt show in the park (albeit car-related).

The biggest problem that I have with DHS is that it's impossible to see all of the shows in one day while also hitting all of the "rides" or attractions.

That being said, I think the Indiana Jones show is the second best show on Disney property, though I think they've toned back the pyrotechnics a little bit in recent years. I do feel like they should probably add to it more, maybe incorporate some parts from the other three films. If any show goes, it should be the Lights, Motor, Action show. I really can't stand that. In fact, I don't like the "oh hey, yeah well see, we're filming actual footage today" angle at any of DHS's shows.

I don't think we need a ride, necessarily, but then again, I have yet to ride the amazingness that is Disneyland's Indy ride.
