Trip Report-- Lee DeWyze at Disney's Hollywood Studios

Hello All,

Just returned from WDW today, from a quick trip to DHS to see Lee DeWyze. I also rode the Backlot Tour, the first time in awhile. I knew it was bad, but WOW didnt know it was that bad, and defintely not as fun, and some effects missing...

Also rode Toy Story Mania, the new game was good, im my opinion better than Bo Peeps Ballooon Pop, did they add new effects to other games??

That is so cool! Lee DeWyze might not be the best Idol vocally, but he is still great and he is completely humble! I like that. David Cook was that way. Anyways, was there a big crowd and why was the Backlot Tour bad, really bad??

I can't stand Lee Dewyze at all, but great pictures! I especially like the one of the Earful Tower, which I don't see up close very often (the last time I went on the Backlot Tour and saw it that close was 2 years ago).

That is so cool! Lee DeWyze might not be the best Idol vocally, but he is still great and he is completely humble! I like that. David Cook was that way.

It's hard to gauge someone vocally when the did not sing at the event today, and you didn't watch the TV show past the audition episodes:lol:

I could write a lot about this, but I'll just sum it up:

-Weak singer, no vibrato, often out-of-tune, awkward phrasing, can't sustain powerful notes.
-Severely overpraised by judges who ignored his faults
-Became increasingly smug and overconfident, even after delivering subpar performances (like in the finale)
-Beat out a far superior vocalist because he's generic and bland. Not for being more deserving.

You may disagree - clearly enough people did for Lee to win. But his win bugs me more than that of any other Idol (even Taylor or Kris).

well I understand(not agree) but I heard someone talkin about Idol the other day and they were saying that American Idol is not just about the vocals anymore. There's so much more into a person winning. I see though. I loved Kris, since he was the underdog, and I loved Taylor because of his soul voice and he was from B-Ham Alabama! Woo! Go SOUL PATROL

AI doesn't need to be about vocals anymore, especially when you consider the power of autotune.

But still, if the mainstream bland soft rock/pop white guy with a guitar is going to win every season, there's really no need to watch AI if you don't like that type of performer. Why bother finding more interesting singers with better vocals if they can't win anyway?

well that's only been the past couple of years. I am strong in my opinion that the Jordin Sparks year was awful! Maybe it's just the hype of the show,voting,seeing into these peoples' lives,etc. that makes this show somewhat excite me. I do also say that Lee DeWyze is not the best Idol, maybe not even the best of this season. But he had the Idol look ie:humble, normal,etc. Some said Crystal, even though outgoing and unique, did not have the "Idolness" needed because of her odd looks and quirkiness.

I think Lee completely deserved this year. But I think the show will go downhill next year since Simon will be gone! That is why you watch LOST and 24-BUT those shows are now over! haha--so what's there to watch!?

Thanks for the comments on the pics...

I said that Backlot tour was 'bad' because i hadnt been on it in a long time, and it has changed a lot... It seemed very short, and kinda boreing (especially with the recording and not live narrator), and Catastrphye Canyon seemed VERY light on effects... didnt the back of the oil rigg use to light up with fire?? this had very little fire in the WHOLE 'stage' area.

it used to have a lot of fire. I've been to WDW a few times since I last rode it; I rode it back in '05 and remembering it actually-not a lot of fire! yeah. . .they need to keep it because it's a cool movie experience(I'm a HUGE movie guy, that's second though under DISNEY). They just need refurbs

Oh, I wish I had seen Lee in person! Thank you so much for sharing the photos, though, so I can at least live vicariously through you. :kiss:

BTW, for those who are skeptical about his voice, check out his two pre-Idol CDs (available on CD Baby for sure and also on iTunes, I think), Slumberland and So I'm Told. They're both excellent (of course, I love his type of gravelly, growly singing voice). I listen to them a lot. He's a very talented songwriter and he sounds great--and I don't think there's any auto-tune in sight.

P.S. I agree about the Backlot Studio Tour being a bit tired. Last time we went to WDW (May 2008), we agreed that we probably wouldn't go back unless they spiff it up just a bit.

Thanks for sharing the photos - loved them all, especially the Lee Dewyze ones, I was a huge fan of his on Idol.

Idol stopped picking great singers since Carrie won I think. I haven't watched a full season since Fantasia won. But now it seems to be more of a popularity contest.

Either way congrats to the winner, didn't hear and see enough to know if he actually truly deserved it, but judging from previous seasons he probably didn't.

haha NO FAMILY GUY for me! not a fan. Glee-started watching a couple weeks ago when Neil Patrick Harris was on(Dream On). GREAT! I love it. Watching it tonight!

It's really sad to say this considering Glee is still in its first season, but the show has definitely seen better days. It's kinda like they didn't think the show would ever get past its first twelve episodes. Don't get me wrong, when the show is good, it's great, but most of the time it just seems to fall flat now.

But I digress.

well I haven't had other experience with the show, so I have no idea. I also didn't have any idea that it was still a baby and on its first season. I'll still watch-see how it goes
