How did Universe of Energy survive but not Horizons and WOM?

Just curious as to how UOE suvived all these years and Horizons and WOM were killed off?

Horizons and WOM seem to have a long and sizeable fan base but yet I hardly hear of anyone speak of UOE??

I personally go to UOE each trip, I think Ellen is funny and the AA's are pretty good in the attraction.

Although Test Track and WOM together may have been too much in regards to vehicles etc wouldnt Mission Space have fit in with Horizons and WOM without being overkill?

Please share your thoughts

I do not know officially but from what I do know it would seem like the sponsors were the biggest influence in the changes.

There the ones with the money. Without sponsers WDW would have to increase its ticket price ten fold. Or, the park gets into a great disrepair.

They cant get it right, can they.

You could ask this about many rides in the World - just look at how many people bemoan the loss of Mr. Toads Wild Ride at the MK, or Alien Encounter. Sponsorship is certainly a large part of it with these two, but as we've seen even the popular rides can get the axe.

The only popular ride with your average guest that got the hook was 20k. There is a small group of die hard fans that are upset about Toad but the majority of Disney guests could not even tell who Mr. Toad is if you put a gun to their head. AE was one of the most complained about attraction in all of WDW.

In WDW maybe but the ride is still very popular in DL

Different demographic. DL's biggest customer base are fanatic AP holders that oppose major change. WDW's target demographic is everyone else on the planet who could typically care less about nostalgia.

dam you sponsors, shows what happens when TDO lets the sponsors make the choices :brick:

A simple answer to that is calling me to repond to this even though there's more to it than this but:

Sponsors = Disney attraction that is paid for.

No sponsors = Disney attraction that YOU pay for (whether you ride it or not). These attractions pretty much have their fate laid out for them.

So, to further analogize, it's like:

Private School = Education that other parents of enrolled students pay for.

Public School = Education that YOU pay for (whether you have children or not). :brick:

Point taken - obviously there is a reason these rides went away. All I'm saying is that neither of these rides were devoid of lines before they shut down. Despite any complaints of how scary it was or of lack of knowledge of the story (another topic completely), there were definitely people riding these attractions before they closed down.

I was one of those. Many times, we walked right past Toads considering it a "baby ride." We rode it once and it was AWESOME! Then, we went back and it was gone :( And I was so IRKED by Alien Encounter! I LOVED taking "new" people to that thing and laugh as they scream their pants off.

I like UOE. I go there every trip.

I am very well aware of how sponsors work. I just personally think it sucks that we wind up with crap attractions like Imagination and Mission Space replacing Horizons due to sponsors.

I miss Horizons just as much as the next person but MS is not a crap attraction. It is not what Disney expected or what some people make it out to be but it is far from crap.

Imagination had more to due with technical issues and in the case of Horizons had M:S not been built Horizons very will might have met the same fate as WoL. Be careful what you wish for.

It could be the sponsors, or it could be those dinosaurs get mighty angry when you try to take them out of there.

God bless the "Ignore" button.
One of the (few) things that UoE has going for it is a completely unique ride system. I know it's not enough to justify the existence of a ride, but I still think it's pretty interesting.
