Now that the long awaited free dining has been announced for Aug 15+, is there any news on a possible room discount for the same dates.

What historicaly happens? Room discounts announced after free dining ?

I would really like to switch my free dining to a room discount.

Historically yes they would but as Joe already pointed out they released today as well for the GP at least. AP discounts are yet to hit.

At those discounts, I can't see AP ones being released.

Have they ever offered more than a %40 at the deluxe?

Time to call tomorrow and kill the free dining and get %40 off instead.

Even at 30% off at a Value, the discount combined with TiW sounds better to me.

The highest I have seen them go is 40% for deluxes and 45% for DVC but I have only been keeping track for a couple of years. Like any other deal you will need to run the numbers to be sure as your party make up can easily tip the scales on way or the other.

When we were staying at the WL last week I enquired about bouncebacks and were told there were none. Coincidentally, the next day, while we were still there I received an email from Disney (I did the online check in and opted to receive emails while on vacation) for bouncebacks basically for the entirety of 2010. I'm guessing regular discounts will follow those dates. We used this for a 4 night stay at Pop in August, but it was only a 20% discount (not much on a $80/night room) so we changed to free dining, but we did use it for 40% off 4 nights at Beach Club in October which saves us about $350.

I've included a copy of what I received

Get 45% off a select Disney Deluxe Villa Resort
Save 45% off the non-discounted price for stays most nights 4/11/10—7/1/10 and 7/5/10—9/30/10 at select Disney Deluxe Villa Resorts, featuring homelike amenities such as kitchenettes in a studio. Need more room for more fun? Ask about a one- or two-bedroom deluxe villa and enjoy extras like a full kitchen and whirlpool tub! (Offer excludes three-bedroom grand villas.)
Get 40% off a select Disney Deluxe Resort
Save 40% off the non-discounted price for stays most nights 4/11/10—7/1/10, 7/5/10—11/23/10 and 11/28/10—12/24/10 at select Disney Deluxe Resorts.

I have seen 45% off for deluxe resorts, too. In fact that is the % off we had for our recent stay at the GF. That is the only time I have seen deluxes have higher than 40% off. The bounceback offer in our room was for 40% off deluxe and 45% off DVC resorts for the remainder of 2010, with some black out dates.

Edited to add: Forgot the DVC 45% off ends September 30th. The rest of the bounceback rates are good through Dec. 24th.

Oh it easily tips. More so when you consider that for us, the dining plan is like a square peg in a round hole.

Agreed.
There was some kind of discount out several months ago which offered 45% off deluxe if you stayed 4 or more nights, and 42% off if you stayed 3 or fewer nights. I used it to save a few more $$$ on our upcoming trip later this month (had originally booked it at 40% off).

However -- a caveat -- my memory isn't good enough to recall if it was a pin code I received, or if it was an advertised discount. sorry.

Also, like the PP, I booked a bounceback for Sept., but it wasn't an ad in the room, it was an email I received during the trip. I almost missed out, because I hadn't been checking my email. It did require that you book before checkout, so I considered it a "bounceback" even though there was nothing advertised in the room. I wonder if they are moving in this direction (email over advertisement in the room) with bouncebacks, and if so, I wonder why? Just to save on printing? hmmmm. curious.

Okay, so there IS a room discount going through the rest of 2010? If that is the case...I might need to get a quote for a trip during October 5th-9th (10th). We'd love to go for our anniversary and have had to cancel an attempt at that last year. We were looking to stay at POFQ, since it's where we honeymooned. Unless....there is a better deal for a deluxe.

*goes to do some research* :)

EDIT: Just re-read through the thread and found out the discounts I was focusing on in the posts were Bounceback offers. To which I am not eligible for. D'oh. *goes back to researching*

Rebooking is complete

Holy jump through hoops batman.

First I hold, and then get told they can't pull my reservation because it was a bounceback, and that is a different department, so I go on hold again for over 90 minutes

I tell the CM I want to remove the free dining I have on the reservation, and replace it with the %40 off offer. She said she had no standard rooms in WL available at 40%, but I had to upgrade to woods view. I said no problem. So she does the change and quotes me a price that is $100 MORE than the free dining one. I asked her how it was possible that a woods view room only with %40 off was more expensive than a standard with free dining. She said "Oh, I left the free dining on there because I did not want you to miss that great discount". I had to ask her to remove it no less than 4 times. She was really pushing the dining plan. Even after I told her I have been to WDW over a dozen times, our eating habits don't match the DDP, and I have a TIW card she kept saying "but it's a really good discount" - wow

Anyway, long story short. Rebooked from $2134.15 to $1,299.34 while upgrading to a woods view. I'll see if my kids (aged 8 and 11) eat $800 worth of food in 7 days.

Nice! I can't see why anyone staying at a deluxe would choose free dining over a room discount. Doesn't make any sense to me:shrug:

I would have called you Marie, but I booked the original reservation on a bounceback, so I could not use you to book the original.

Then I didn't think that you would get any sort of commission by just changing a reservations discount status, as you did not make the original sale.

Rest assured, I was thinking "This would have been a lot easier if I could have just sent Marie an email" :D

You can transfer a WDW reservation to a travel agent/agency by sending Disney Guest Services a fax with the appropriate information and your signature. It only takes a few days, and then the agent would get commission and be able to assist you.

I booked the original reservation on a bounceback, so I could not use you to book the original.

FYI, when booking a bounceback offer, at the time of booking, you can tell the agent that you want the reservation assigned to your travel agent/agency. This is also true when booking a future Disney cruise while on a cruise.
