Question about park maps

Recently a friend of mine went to WDW and I asked her to bring me back some maps from the parks. Since we don't have a trip planned right now I needed something to tide me over :brick: But, in getting the MK map I was shocked to see nothing about the FL expansion. Maybe I have read the updates wrong but I thought they already had areas blocked off

Any one know how often they print the maps? It says 2010 on the back, so obviously it can't be too old, Just curious!

I would assume that the FL expansion isn't included because in essence its basically a REHAB of the area! They do not change the maps everytime an attraction or area goes into a rehab, so why would they print new maps to show a smaller FL area!? I am sure once guests are there and they see the walls up around FL, they will not think they should have gotten updated maps that shows the REHAB area(s).

If you really want to get 'your fix' on disney, go to Disney.com and look for the maps that you can either download or HAVE SENT TO YOU! I did this and it was wonderful to see the attractions I PICKED to go to on my trip...its like your own personalized park map!!!!

I`ve seen construction marked on maps when it can impact on the day due to areas being closed (Tland 94 or Innoventions 93) and when a project is too large to hide (Sunset Blvd, Star Tours, Test Track) but there dosn`t seem to be a firm rule as to when to begin to mark a project on the map. Early days yet I guess.

How often new park maps are printed varies between each of the parks. For example in 2010 MK had maps printed in Jan, Feb and Mar (however these were not released till April) The Studios on the other hand had only Jan and March maps (also not available until April -- and in fact they are still giving out the old maps in the front of the park :()

I've posted these before but here are the Jan & Mar covers (Feb has Splash Mtn on it)

Here is a close-up of the March map. This is map reflects the removal of Ariel's Grotto, Scuttle's Landing & Pooh's Playful Spot. They also used this opportunity to removed the Galaxy Palace Theater from the map (which has been gone for months but has remained on the map)

There are however other changes not reflected in the new map. The DVC cart in Fantayland is closed, block behind the construction was and the artwork for the Tomorrowland Skyway Station has not been changed.

The March Studios map has three changes to it since the Jan edition. 1) LMA is no longer listed as a FastPast attraction (Finally! They haven't given out FPs there in months) 2) Studio Catering Co.'s description reflects its new menu 3) At Narnia, "Meet Prince Caspian" has been removed from the description (Caspian stopped meeting Guests Jan 9th)

On the new Epcot map (new for the F&GF) The list of Future World attractions is now divided into "Future Wold East" and "Future World West" They used to be listed simple under "Future World"

FWE: SSE, UoE, M:S, TT, Innoventions E&W
FWW: Character Spot, Seas, Land, Imagination!

I'm sure that when construction get farther along (prob when it starts to go vertical and can start to be seen from inside the park, or when they close parts of Toontown Fair) you'll see at least a text box on the map saying "Future Site of...".

That's what they did while Expedition Everest was under construction. Then, when the walkway past the mountain was open, you got the new path, but I think the text box was still there.

When I visited AK for the first time in Dec 1998, we happened to be there for Asia's very first soft opening to the public. At that time it was just the public walkways and the Jungle Trek, Kali was still months away from opening. The park map earlier in the week had nothing at all where Asia was (or perhaps a text box saying Future Site...), and on the day of the first soft open, they had park maps with a hazy/fog-like version of the land.
