Captain EO question

I read up on the news that Captain EO is coming. Sorry if I stole a thread I couldn't find any about this. My question is does anyone know if it is going to be any different or come in an updated form And will it be there until next April or February? I heard there is a posable return for Honey I shrunk the audience which I dont want.

From what I've heard/read, there won't be any new effects added to the show, just the movie itself. And I'm not sure how long it will be at Epcot. But I have read the run will be finite, with HISTA returning at some point....

I wonder why it is only temporary and I hope I get to see it once more. After they fix that there is something else in that building that needs help.

Yes, HISTA will be returning after EO is done. EO will probably run for a year and a half, to two years. This depends on merchandise sales and popularity of the show itself.

As for the in-theater effects, that's still up in the air. TDO wants to half-______ it as usual, but there are some voices within the company that are demanding otherwise.

Well, I figured they would probably half ___ it, but I was hoping that they will at least remove the HISTA theming. I would be happy with just that. A "blank slate" as it were. I'm not fool enough to hope that they would actually recreate the original set pieces from EO's first run. :brick:

As for HISTA's return, I guess I just can't wrap my mind around it. It will be 1-2 years older than it is now, and even less relevant. There are already younger guests who don't even know that the attraction is related to a movie.

Things could move a few ways with EO returning. As I understand it any one of the following could happen:

EO will add new attention to the pavilion, enough to allow the attraction in the main building to go down for a refurb.

EO will add new attention to the pavilion, boosting attendence of the ride next door which will stagnate even more.

EO will allow the ride next door to begin its refurb. When EO closes the ride next door - still unopened - will take over the Magic Eye space as well. This now looks unlikely.

EO will allow the ride next door to go down for a refurb, once open the theatre will go down for a refurb, opening as a new theatre attraction.

And of course nothing may happen, HISTA will return after EO and Imagination will still be with Figment.

All of the above have been discussed as options. Hopefully TDO will for once get its act together and use this opportunity to finally move the pavilion forward.

Unless a new ride and show WOULD move merchandise like crazy, it's very doubtful TDO would put much money into anything new.

But with all the possibilities you mentioned, is the upstairs Imageworks involved in any way?

With a few posibilities, yes it is.

EPCOT has it's 30th Anniversary in 2.5 years.

EO for 1.5 to 2 years might fit the bill until 30th Anniversary kicks off.

How about Captain EO staying around so they can do a major Refurb on JIIwF used to promote Anniversary. Also during this time getting some of upstairs possibilities done.

They can do that at least can't they? Wish HISTA was going Bye Bye but if we get a major refurb (Please go back to original w/ Dreamfinder) and use of upstairs to coincide with Anniversary then we probably should be thankful for that.

We can then concentrate on them getting HISTA out of there after that.

What would be the best new attraction for that space. Martin your a smart guy, what do you think should be done with HISTA area?

Still feel EPCOT will get the shaft and nothing will happen. Not even removal of tarps.
Just another retro guide map, special button, small ceremony and maybe a tag to Illuminations again. Sob.....

I am hoping the same :wave:. I dont see why Captain EO isn't permeant do to its popularity. I thing the return of Dreamfinder is mandatory or the pavilion will just be sitting there alone. I hope Spaceship Earth finally gets finished. I think illuminations could use a change but the same story line and the same effects along with new ones. Maybe bring back the laser images along with the globe and a better laser display which isn't half bad as it is.

Can Captain EO save EPCOT's Anniversary celebration? Will TDO ever go with spending the money it takes to do things right? Will we be here 30 years from now still waiting for them to finish the ending to SSE?

Please no. If they character overlay JII with anything other than Dreamfinder and Figment I think I will truly lose all hope for EPCOT. I really hope that ruining The Living Seas was enough for them. I just don't think I would be able to take them destroying another pavilion.

Imagination Would probably be more of a priority because after the refurb doing to what it would have to offer if they make it as good or better as it was in the old days. I could see it making it to the front cover like the seas is and gaining popularity. I didn't even know the tombstones and the stage removal were on the list. When they mean "set aside" that probably means wait until the recession is over.

That is one of the more promising options, thankfully. Here`s hoping. They know something needs to be done, and they know they have to get it right this time.

Smart? Me? But personally I`d like to see an immersive, new 3D attraction in the theatre. It is a theatre - keep it that way. But with a theme tied to the main pavilion; as bad as 1999 was the whole concept of one theme for 3 attractions and - dare I say it - the synergy was great. A live action / CGI Figment version of Magic Journeys or similar. Something way out there, something romantic and totally dream-like, purely about imagining.
