"Princess" Tiana is now OFFICIALLY a Disney Princess

I think the ladies from Hunchback and Herc don't count because they weren't the title characters. The princesses, whether they have actual royal ties or not, come from movies where they are the focal points.

Um, Aladdin?

Though Disney has shifted their marketing of that film to appear as such.

They should totally make her a princess.

But Jasmine was a princess - the whole premise of the movie was that she was a princess and had marry a prince.

I'm countering the idea that the current line-up of "Princesses" is based on leading ladies whom the stories are focused on. I don't know why you thought I was saying Jasmine was not a Princess.

Jasmine is neither the title character nor whom the story is centrally focused on in Aladdin.

You are correct, I didn't catch that one.

Bairstow,

Really not cool to only quote half my sentence to manipulate what I said. I wasn't saying I didn't think they were princesses, I was explaining why Disney wasn't marketing them that way.

I just finished watching The Princess and the Frog a couple of minutes ago for the frist time by renting it. I stand up and applaued Tiana for becoming an official princess. Her character is someone every girl should look up to. So this means that Prince Naveen is an official Disney prince? How come he doesn't get a royal celebration? hehe ;D

Like said, Jasmine is by no means the title character of the movie Aladdin. But she is a leading lady that's greatly memorable.

And maybe I'm the only one who didn't like Atlantis here, or at least one of the few. Kida was pretty much absent throughout most of the movie and all the characters turned out to be evil except, what, 3? That totally killed the movie for me, sorry.

I loved The Princess and The Frog. I mean yeah storywise I found it a bit lacking but I found the music great (Ray's song was PERFECT Zydeco!) and then there's the biggest draw for me...TIANA LOOKS LIKE ME. I don't have to settle for Jasmine (who probably is closer actual colorwise...) or Pochantas! She's BLACK. That is massive for me. I'm lucky in that I grew up in a household where I was colorblind to quite a lot so I don't have nearly the same skewed view a lot of younger black girls do. Belle is and always will be my favourite Princess (a sarcastic book fiend? A woman after my own heart) but Tiana is close to my heart :)

Disney did not consider this to be nearly as successful as they were planning/hoping. Not to say it wasn't mildly successful...they were just hoping for more.
The Dopes in suits are always "hoping for more." I think no matter how much money a movie makes, they always seem to expect more more more.
