Howdy wdwmagic - to paraphrase a wise lady, "help me wdwmagic, you're my only hope"

I am currently signed up for the WDW Marathon, and I have been injured. Over the past three weeks a nagging knee issue (could be patellar tendonitis, could be ITBS, could be both) has kept me out of training, and the marathon is quickly approaching.

I have come to the conclusion that I do not think the full marathon is in the stars for me. I don't have enough time left to fully train for it. I do however have enough time to finish training and successfully run the half.

I have completed three half marathons so far in my running career, and the WDW full was to be my first real marathon.

I contacted my Team in Training folks to see about switching from the full marathon to the half, and they said it was not possible. So I called Disney and asked them only to hear the same response.

I am writing here to see if anyone might have been signed up for the half that has had to drop out and will not be using their number. I know it's a long shot, but I'd like to try to find someone out there whose number I can use.

So if you have a registration for the half and are not going to use it, can you please contact me?

Thanks!

yeah, that half marathon is a hard ticket to come by this late in the game.

if you can't find a charity group - Team ASK was one last year - it could be tough sledding since the half has been sold out for months.

What did Disney say about you using a bib assigned to someone else? Did they say they would make the substitution or would your finish time be credited to someone else?

Disney basically shut the door on me as soon as I said I wanted to switch. I did not escalate to a higher power yet, but I might have to.

I wouldn't even care if my time was given to someone else, I just want to run SOMETHING at disney, and since this injury will keep me out of the full marathon, the half is perfect.

I am actually already signed up with Team in Training for this event, and so far I've raised $3600 for them. But, even with that I am getting nowhere.

it's very frustrating.

yoda - I just read your PM and replied. Hopefully this works!

At this time we have 15 Half Marathon Entries and 10 Full Marathon Entries available. All require a minimum fundraising of $1500 to be apart of Team Autism Speaks.

This fundraising is separate from the required 3 night stay at either Disney’s All Star Music, Movies or Sports Resorts. We have locked in a low rate for you. All you need to do is book your room. Upon confirmed registration you will have to reserve your rooms and/or theme park tickets.

@captain_marvel1 -

The problem is that the half registration is completely full. If I could I would just register for it on my own and skip the full entirely. Thanks for the offer on the sponsorship though, I just dont think it's even a possibility this late in the game.

The only thing I can try to do is swap or use someone else's registration that they won't be using. I'm hoping that option works.

Thanks man!

These messages of support help a lot! Sometimes more than you'd know, so I really appreciate it.

With the help of yodasmith I should be able to run the half marathon, so everyone keep your fingers crossed that it works.

It's extremely rare for any race to make exceptions, once the capacity has been reached. Talk to your Team In Training rep.. They may be able to get you an entry in the half, since you've already raised the money. I've never registered through a charity, but I understand in talking with some of the Disney organizers in the past, that charity entries should not count against the standard registration cap.

Also consider still competing in the full marathon. As long as you maintain the 16 min./per mile pace, you will get the medal. There are thousands of people who walk the entire race. There's no shame in walking portions of the race, especially when an injury is involved. Good luck!
