Attractions and ideas for the parks that never came to be.

So this is a thread to share and discuss attractions, lands, shows, or anything that was proposed for the parks that never came to be. Share some of these ideas and pictures if you got them.

I will start off with two lands that were proposed for DL back in the day that I always wanted to see.

In 1958 Walt and GE had an idea for a land that would be an extension of Main Street USA called Edison square. Edison square even appeared on park maps saying coming soon. The idea was tweaked and changed into the GE pavilion at the Worlds Fair.

Also the land I would love to see come to WDW Discovery Bay

Lightkeepers : A night time pageant created around Tomorrowland 2055 about an entire race of god-like alien creatures that actually created light. They were alleged to come from a far-off mythical galaxy where light was the source of everything. Created as a possible Main Street Electrical Parade replacement. Eventually became the inspiration for the short-lived "Light Magic" nighttime parade.

Here is another cool one from DL.

Tarzan Coaster : The Tarzan "coaster" was envisioned to be build near Captain Hook's pirate ship and using in part the Swiss Robinson Tree structure.

Well, you certainly can't have an unbuilt attraction thread without featuring Marc Davis' Western River Expedition (and Thunder Mesa)! This is required reading for any WDW fan... For those of you who don't know, instead of Pirates, WDW was to get a completely original water ride which would have shared the same area as the planned runaway mine train -- an enormous area dubbed Thunder Mesa. It was originally such a sure thing that they printed pre-opening postcards for it, showcased it at the preview center, and lots more. But instead, b/c people demanded it (and quickly), we got a half-assed PoC instead. :)

Thunder Mesa would have been great and here is some more stuff I want!~

Switzerland Pavilion : Planned primarily to bring a Matterhorn-style ride to Epcot.

This would save TL in WDW!!!!

Sci-Fi City : A whole new Tomorrowland designed by Eddie Sotto, DLP Main Street's show producer. It would have include "Cosmic Way" , the "Main Street" of science fiction with a theming inspired by the Jetsons, Buck Rogers and Rocketeer. And brand new attractions like the "Rocket Bikes" , "Sci-Fi Zoo" an extra terrestrial zoo, "Lunar Rovers" an Autopia version "on the moon" , "Flying Saucers" , an updated version of Rocket Jets and Hyper Space Mountain, an enhanced version of Space Mountain. Probably the best Tomorrowland theming ever done, and unfortunately never built at TDL for various reasons.

Another one I'd like to add is the planned "Meet the World" exhibit which was to be part of the Japan pavilion at EPCOT. (A version of the show WAS made for Tokyo Disneyland.) The warehouse was built for this 'carousel theater' show and remains there today. (Empty? Used for backstage? No idea.) I've heard a few stories why it never got made -- everything from budget running out to an INCORRECT MEASUREMENT that would have cost WED too much to revise. If you were lucky enough to visit Tokyo Disneyland prior to 2002, than hopefully you were able to see it as I never had the good fortune to.

At any rate... you can get a quick history lesson and see the ENTIRE SHOW with the American soundtrack (and yet another wonderful song from the Sherman Brothers) in Martin's incredible tribute to EPCOT'S Japan starting here at the 5 minute mark:

Enjoy!!!

they coulda used the ones from Alien Encounter when it closed. it would be epic

Yes!!!!

Here is another for Japan in WS!

Simulated Bullet Train Ride : A unique variation of Disney's CircleVision 360 show. These WDW guests would have found themselves standing on board a vibrating recreation of the passenger compartment of a Japanese bullet train. By looking out through the over-sized faux windows in this passenger car these folks would then have been treated to a high speed travelogue. As some of Japan's most beautiful scenery continually whizzed by all of the windows. Planned for the Japan Pavilion at Epcot.

Never heard of that! Very cool.

Ah, the original home of CoP. ;)

Yea I wish they had built this when they brought COP to WDW, then you wouldn't have to worry about COP every being outdated! If it was was a branch off of MS USA it would blend so perfectly!
