Hoop Dee Doo Revue vs Mickey's Backyard BBQ?

I need some advice. We've been to HDDR before but never MBBBQ. We love HDDR but we have 3 children traveling with us, ages 10, 6, and 2 and we're thinking they will enjoy the characters at MBBBQ better.

Someone told me that they've heard alot of negatives about MBBBQ. I need to know what you think.....

Thanks for any help you can/will give!

They are sooo different. Mickey's Backyard BBQ is interactive with Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Chip and Dale. Mickey came to all the tables for individual photos. Kids got to dance with the characters and families. It is a buffet and not table service. It really depends on what you want. :)

We went to MBBBQ quite a few years ago and before we had kids. We really disliked it. Seemed like an awefully lot of money to spend on the food you got. The kids totally crowded the characters and just didn't seem to organized. We ended up leaving shortly after we ate. But, that was just our experience. Since you have kids and have never done it, it may be worth doing it once and see for yourself. I live where we have BBQ's all the time sitting at picnic tables, etc. Just didn't seem worth the extra price for us to go to the BBQ again. We do have ressies for Hoop Dee Doo though for our upcoming trip with our 2 year old.

Ok. We might just try it this once. We did HDDR last year with my 5-year-old. She loved the music and dancing. Of course, we loved it too! Since we're traveling with other children this time (ages 10 and 2 oh and my DD too), I'm thinking that throwing Mickey and Minnie (and others) into the mix would be a good thing to keep them occupied. Just not sure.....

My parents took our daughter and 3 nephews 2,3,4,7..My parents really liked it..The food was good and you need to get there early so you can get a table by the dance floor.

We did this in 2004 with a 4 year old and 4 month old. The 4 year old had a blast dancing with the characters. They did make the rounds to the tables and even gave some attention to the little man. The food was so so, but there was a lot of it. The main downfall was the heat and the very long queue. There is no assigned seating so you have to get there early and stand in a LONG line to get a decent seat. (at least that is how it was then, it may have changed ) It is really not a place to get autographs per se, but nothing beats dancing with the characters. I don't think we will go again as DH did not have a great time and we want to try HDDR at some point but overall it was a pretty good experience.

It is held entirely underneath a shelter so I don't see rain as too much of a problem. I would not be a fun thing to do without kids but the little kids loved it! My DH thought the food was good, a lot of variety and well managed. We have gone to buffets of similar size and it was a mess.

Thanks everyone. This is exactly the kind of feedback I needed. I needed to hear from people who have actually experienced it!

I'm thinking it would be a good thing for our little ones.....at least to do it once and then I'll have my own story to tell about it, right?

Thanks again!

Not sure when you are going, but you may want to bring a jacket if you are going in cooler months. It was very cold when we were there in December since it was in a covered open air area.
