I would love to hear from any members here who have visited the Tokyo DisneySea location.

Likes?

Dislikes?

Is it really as amazing as it looks?

Best time to visit, off season times, resorts, etc....

Thanks!

The TDR is amazing. And TDS is the crown jewel. This would be an awfully long post if I included everything we liked about it. How about I put it this way: There was nothing we disliked.

The food might seem a little different... But honestly even my kids, 12 and 10, did just fine.

If you're serious about thinking about a visit, I want to make one suggestion:

Get Kevin Yee's Book "Tokyo Disney Made Easy". It covers EVERYTHING... From weather to when to visit, to how to get through the airport, hotel options, exactly how to dial their reservations lines and what to hit to get to the English speaking people (a BIG help), to a complete summary of the resort and everything there is to do, top to bottom. Surprisingly, there's not a lot of great detailed info in English that's easy to find on TDR and how to get there and get around and everything. Kevin's book became my bible. And the vacation was that much better, because it was stress free. It's well worth the purchase. Absolutely. I got my copy from him before it was actually released, so I'm sure there's been additions and changes since I got mine, but even mine was great.

EDIT TO ADD: His book also includes some VERY valuable info on customs and what to expect while there, as well as what kind of behaviors to expect, how monetary exchanges work over there, and so forth. I'm telling you, because of that book, I was confident and relaxed on our trip.

Language barrier really wasn't a problem, either. And let me tell you... You've never seen respect for other people, and service and cleanliness till you've visited TDR.

We went into the trip thinking it would be a once in a lifetime thing. Now, we're quite sure we'll go about every 5 years. The country is wonderful too. Can't say enough about the Japanese people. I wish we had even a half of the manners and courtesy they exibit over there. Just great.

Let's just put it this way....come back from Tokyo and you'll cry a little bit every time you set foot in a stateside park and then secretly pray the Japanese buy them. Not just TDS (best park ever)...While their Magic Kindgom isn't perfect, many of their attractions cream what we have here. I can barely even ride things like Pooh or Monsters Inc here in America after seeing what we could have! Their maintenence and operations are hard to beleive too....

I was amazed upon my first visit to disney sea...it was amazing.

Liked- It was the disney experience but with an asian flare (hard to explain online you'll see when you get there)

Disliked- Although I am Canadian....I was spat at on a subway because they thought I was american....but hey you can get that anywhere in the world.

How do you know that was the reason you were spat on??

I found the complete opposite everywhere I went in the country. My entire family, from my wife and kids to my parents thought the same. From kids that were excited to try out their English abilities with a real Westerner, to old people giving my parents gifts as visitors (and if there's any potential for bad blood, it would be between their generations).

We literally had a woman come up to us and ask if we needed help finding our way within about 2 minutes of leaving the baggage area of the airport. Wonderful people.

I'm already feeling a bit like that just from looking at the pics.

The attention to detail is stunning.

Here's two bits to chew on from my trip personally...

We came around a corner in Disney Sea on a path that no one was really on. And over on one side was a little pile of pine needles... IN THE PERFECT SHAPE OF A CLASSIC MICKEY. And I'm not talking something that could be done with a broom. It was done by hand. By the people that walked around sweeping.

Also, one day after it rained, we were walking along, and came across a dry section of pavement that was under some cover... And a full face of Donald Duck was "painted" with water by a sweeper. Amazing.

If I can find pictures, I'll post them...

EDIT TO ADD: Okay, I put those two pictures in my TDS album. Check them out. There's a few other pics in there too that show the level of detail in the park. It's just insane. I've probably got 100 pictures, but I'm not gonna upload them all.

Fantastic stuff!

The pics I've found online of the Mira Costa resort and Magellan's restaurant are enough to sell the trip as far as I'm concerned.

What time of year did you go and how were the crowds and weather?

One day, my friend, we shall go.[-_-]

And faint in the entrance plaza.:lookaroun

I enjoy the hopefulness, but I just don't think it'll ever happen for me...just so expensive, not to mention the language I need to learn, and then the money needed for Hotels, Transportation, Food (I'd have to start to eat.), admission, gifts, and Ahkihabara spending.

The hope part of me is all "HOPE!", but then that pesky LOGIC part of my mind kicks in and is all like "Yeahhhhhh...don't get your hopes up THAT much."

You take a good long look at that building and say with me..If you can dream it...you can do it..

I too don't see me making it in the immediate future, but you never know what can happen in a decade or two. A career might help.:lookaroun
