Boatwrights Dining Hall at Port Orleans to discontinue breakfast this Sunday

This is so sad. We had our first experience with the Boatwright's breakfast in Jan. It was amazing. Well, back to bananas and granola bars for breakfast.

Never was the biggest fan of POR, now even less so. Boatrights breakfast was a highlight, and once won me a wdwmagic photo contest.

any of the other numerous places at WDW that serve breakfast?

That are not exactly within reasonable distance? Boatwrights becoming the only table service option for the entire new Port Orleans resort was the first blunder and now this is the second. Continuing to get rid of dining options there is not a smart move as all it does is makes current guess more miserable and others not find the resort as appelaing.

Having spent a lot of time with a manager of finance from a number of the resorts...these decisions are not taken lightly. There is a lot of planning that goes in to making a decision of this size. With breakfast being the most profitable meal of the day, I think that there were plenty of reasons that the team at Port Orleans made this decision.

True, but I bet you there will be plenty of complaints relating to how a resort with 3000 + rooms now only has 1 restaurant with 1 meal for them all. For guests playing extra to get a Moderate level room their food options are basically on par with the much cheaper Value resorts.

I'm sure alot of thought went into Fantasmic! getting reduced shows but it didn't exactly prove popular.

These are just a sign of the times. I would think that the decision would be reversed when times improve and there is a demand for breakfast again. And, if I remember correctly, Maya Grill is the only other Moderate restaurant that serves breakfast. That establishment is also not owned by Disney. I think that Disney knows what they are doing when it comes to these things. Sometimes you have to make tough decisions in a tough economy.

They're trying to push people towards a deluxe resort and streamline remaining guests through quick service. Maya Grill only offers breakfast as a moderate resort table service due to the extensive use of convention facilities.

I don't really believe that is their plan. They gain no advantage if they can't fill their moderate rooms.

I believe the real aim is to consolidate guests. Not every breakfast table at WDW was booked at all times, so by closing Boatwrights, guests are forced to eat elsewhere. Until every table is booked, guests still have (reduced) options and Disney grosses the same amount (but profits more b/c they closed some of their restaurants). It makes complete sense in a recession, though I doubt they will go back to serving breakfast after the economy improves. These cutbacks have a habit of sticking...

I agree that the plan is to consolidate people at restaurants, especially in a time like this. I don't think their plan is to get people to not stay in the moderates and only in the deluxes, as the poster suggested when I commented

Port Orleans is by far the busiest moderate and contains, based on my experience in talking with cast members who have worked there, more difficult guests versus others. I assume that this is due to many reasons - one of which is that many view this as a bargain deluxe resort with some small cutbacks. It is the only moderate that is connected by water taxi and it also holds the most recreational options versus other moderates.

Bonfamille's Cafe at the French Quarter was shuttered for a good reason.

Also, it is not Disney's aim to force others into a deluxe resort, but rather help disperse those seeking lodgings at a moderate by trimming the excessive benefits that Port Orleans has. If they want to have more amenities and dining options, Disney wants to recoup more by enticing them to stay at a higher price per night.
