The worst possible food

Last Tuesday we had dinner at the Garden Grill, our first experience there. I do have to say the character interaction was great and they visited more than once. However, the food was horrible! The mashed potatoes were bland, the turkey dry, the cranberry relish had a weird taste to it, the "steak" was dry and flavorless and pretty much everything was cold. I honestly have to say that was the worst food we have had in or out of Disney in a long time! Even the waitress said soemthing to us because she could tell we didn't like it. She kept asking us if we wanted anymore of anything and we kept getting salad, so she eventually said "well at least the salad is good." I was looking forward to this meal because it was something new but I will not go back there. Was it a really off night or is the food always this bad?

We ate there the night before you and my whole family loved it! I guess everyone has different tastes, or maybe they were having an off night.

I will say though that even though we enjoyed it, we liked the lunch we had there last January better. They had potato casserole which was better than the mashed potatos.

It had to be an off night. This is a place we always find ourselves going back to time and time again because the food is consistently good and the menu has not been viciously slashed and downsized like many other restaurants on property. The flank steak is marinated in one of the best marinades I have ever had and has never come out even close to anything that I could describe as flavorless. I could understand someone not liking the flavor but to say that it was flavorless and dry something had to be off in the kitchen. While the turkey has never been "deep fried" moist I have always found it to be good. I can't comment on the cranberry relish as I have never cared for cranberries so I have always avoided it.

DEFINITELY a weird night.
I absolutely adore the Garden Grille!
My family and I eat there every year and its my mom's absolute favorite. Shes wicked bummed that it won't be serving dinner anymore.
The food has always been perfect and very tasty. Its too bad you didn't get to experience it like it usually is!

It sounds like it was just an off night! Last time I went the food was delicious (especially the catfish!). That is one of my favorite restaurants at WDW!

I quite like it there although on my one and only visit, I didn't find the food that great. Certainly not terrible though so perhaps it was just an off night?

I chime in as well and say while it is not fine dining, the food is certanly a solid "good" when ever I have been there. I have had worse, much worse.

You are not alone on this one. My family hates the Garden Grill. We had a miserable experience there. Our waiter was horrible as was the food. That's one place we will never go back to.

I've eaten there twice and loved it both times.. However, as was stated before, everyone has different tastes.. I never have had the mashed potatoes though, only the scalloped potatoes which were wonderful..

We ate at the Garden Grill on our 10 day stay (ate at 10 different resturants plus 10 quick service resturants) and this was my least favorite. It wasn't nasty to me but was very bland to me and I wouldnt eat it again especially at disneyw ith so many great places to eat, which I would imagine is just my taste because when i planned our trip I came to this board to pick my resturants and Garden Grill had great reviews. I guess its just ones taste.

I'm not a big "family style" fan when it comes to food service, but I have always found the Garden Grill to be OK. Although it is not a fantastic culinary experience, I can't say that I've ever had a bad meal there myself.

I ate there years ago with a friend. Although the character experience was great and it was a cool restaurant, we found the food not so great either. It wasn't as bad as yours sounds, but it wasn't too appetizing. Needless to say, I have not been back since.

We ate there last friday. I wouldn't say it was terrible, but I didn't think it was as good as when we ate there last year. The flank steak was really tough and chewy this time - it was really delicious last year. I thought the turkey was passible, DH liked the catfish, and we both loved the cornbread stuffing.

Aw, I'm sorry you had a bad experience! Garden Grill is one of my absolute favorites! We have been there 3 times, loved the food & the service. When we got engaged, they brought us a free "congratulations" dessert. They had Chip come over & propose to me. After we got married, they gave us a table even though they were booked because we wore our mouse ears & they gave us a free appetizer! I thought the customer service was really rare!

And the food we have always loved. Any restaurant can have an off night though - I hope that's what your experience was. I would hate it if Garden Grille was changing!

We have eaten there many times and the food is usually "okay".....never amazing or memorable, but usually not terrible. It was probably an off night to some degree. I will say we place Garden Grill on out list of tops for the Character experience and near the bottom for food. Hollywood and Vine is the worst in our book.

I'd give it another try maybe next time and see if it seems better. The catfish is awesome!

Sounds more like Swiss Chalet to me.

Do they still have the orange blossom honey butter? The rolls with that is just too good!

It's been awhile since we ate here (about 3 years)....trying to decide if we should fit it into our plans this next trip as Grandma and Grandpa have never been here....and Chip and dale are my DS favorites!
