Just book it for three people and one of you can pretend that you have multiple personality disorder. If you're a good actor or actress, they'll be afraid to hassle you.

With most restaurants, it is not a big deal. We've unintentionally shown up with fewer people in our party a couple of times when a family member was not feeling well and decided to skip dinner, etc.

But with CA Grill they take a credit card to hold your reservation....so I am not sure how they would handle it if you reserved for 3 and only 2 showed up. They would still let you eat of course, but there might be a chance they would charge you for a third person....I'm not sure how strict they are on that.

I think they just get your credit card to make sure you really want the reservation. If they don't mention a fee for not cancelling 24hrs prior they can not charge the people who did not show up.
At a character meal like Akershus they tell you there will be a charge for not cancelling.

As was said, with reservations at Cali...it may be an issue. Not sure when your trip is scheduled for, but I would try calling back a number of times as things do occasionally open up.

You can make the reservation for three to hold the time, but try again for two. If you do the three, be sure to call back the day before and change the three to a two.

If you book for three that means you're allocated a table for four persons. As you only intend for two people to dine, you are depriving four people of the chance to eat.

I'd be pretty annoyed if I was turned away due to it being full only to find a table set for four and only two dining

The interesting thing about that is I have overheard CM's many times at the concierge desk actually telling people to take the bigger table and just tell them when they get there the other person couldn't make it.

Then why do CMs tend to sit groups of 2 at a table for 4 if that is what becomes available for their ADR time? Numerous times my mother and I (a party of two) have been seated at a table for 4.

I think that happens much less than tables just sitting open from dissed ADR's. That smokes me! As was said before, we have had the situation happen a number of times where even though we made ressies for 2, we were seated at a 4 table. If you look at most of the restaurants, you will usually see very few tables for 2....a full four table gives the restaurant the greatest flexibility.

I just returned from the world. We had 2 ADR's that were for 11 but only 8 of us were there. We had no issues, just let them know at check-in that the number was lower.
