We ate at the Yak & Yeti in December. This was before they were taking ADRs over the phone so you had to run in to secure your reservation in person. When we initially got our reservation in the morning we set it for 6:00/dinner. By about 2:30 we were absolutely starving. We were a little nervous about snacking because we really, really wanted to enjoy this new dining experience. So as we were walking by at 2:30-ish we decided to step inside to see if they had any availability right away and we could skip the snacks. Not only were they able to take us right in, we were able to get a seat by the window upstairs so we wouldn't miss Mickey's Jingle Jungle Parade. Yay!!! :sohappy:
The decor of the Yak & Yeti is just amazing. It's so beautiful. You really do get that immersive feeling. Sooo neat. You'll want to take lots of pics.
As far as the food, well, I have to agree with MasterYoda on this one. We were a bit underwhelmed. When you think about it, as hungry as we were at that time most anything should have tasted like the veeery beeest whatever no matter what. The food choices were pretty limited. Most of the basic Asian-type dishes were covered but nothing really stood out as interesting. As for the taste and quality of the food, it wasn't all that great. We frequent a lot of quality Asian restaurants that specifically *don't* use MSG in their food (not the stuff you get at the take-out, quicky places). I've had much, much better food at restaurants at home for a fraction of the cost at Y&Y. Thus, we were truly underwhelmed by the food. (("Underwhelmed"...that's a good word...like that one...)) Also, something we noted was that both the hubby and I had indigestion for the rest of the day after this meal. It was the meal that just kept on giving...LOL!
The service was okay. I wouldn't say it was spectacular. Y&Y hadn't been open very long so the waitor seemed pretty nervous, like he wasn't sure if he was doing too much or too little. I always try to be extra kind to people I know are new at a job, tho. I know all too well what it's like to be the newbie trying to figure it all out and not screw up. The waitor truly was sweet and seemed to care about what he was doing which is probably the best you can ever ask for in service. I'm sure in time when he built his confidence if he still had the willingness to care he would have evolved into a spectacular waitor.
Overall, I wouldn't tell someone *not* to try this restaurant. It's interesting and something different. I think everyone should try things at least once to form their own thoughts from their experience. TS eateries are pretty limited at AK which is another reason to give it a shot.
If you happen to have your ADR during the parade I'd show up a bit early and request a table by the windows upstairs. That was the absolute highlight of our experience. We had the perfect birds-eye view of the entire parade, could hear all the music, didn't fight any crowds for a good spot, and enjoyed the extra sprinkles of Pixie dust when the various characters would look up at us and wave or point directly to us. That so rocked!
