I saw that crane on Saturday, didn't have a camera with me though. Are they just dismantling the theater and thats it, or are they building a new theater/attraction there?

Hey... I got photos from today, need to get them off of camera but they are putting a new roof on the theater, thats why the crain was there... to lift the metal (melted wand maybe??) onto the roof to be installed.

They are rebuilding and enclosing the theater for special event use such as Disney's Magic Music Days, soap opra weekend, Star wars weekend, so on and so forth.

Phew,

I misread the title and thought this was going to be about demolishing the backlot tour - an attraction I would hate to see removed (although from what I've heard, restoring it back to its original glory wouldn't hurt - I never saw it in its prime)

i respect your opinion and what you like, but honestly, i wish i would have misread the title and the backlot tour would be killed. from what it used to be to what it is now.... the space could be used for bigger and greater things.

i hate that you didnt get to go down the golden girls street. that was always fun.

Backlot implies that at least fake shooting is going on there. It really is a shell of its former self, and replaced by a show that really wasn't very exciting for me.

I was hoping they had something else in mind for the space as well.

On topic, the new roof looks like it is a good renovation.

Hopefully it is being demolished along with that ridiculous back-drop that looks so bad (not disney quality). That area is plenty large enough for a new enclosed attraction. But since they have not removed the "bridge towers" I am doubtful it is a complete demolition (unfortunately) :brick:

You might want to get in your trips on the BST while you can because there is no doubt it won't survive the overhaul of the park IMO. :D

So there wont be a show going into that theater on a permanent basis?

That seems to be the most cohesive story going around DHS right now and it makes sence. With a new show going into the ABC theater they will need some place to host these events.

I really wish they'd take this oportunity to fix this area of the park. It is really messy back there. You go past the Muppets show to the "wall" of the park and it is just an empty area where you can meet the Toy Story characters. With Pixar Place opening, I think they should relocate the meet and greet over there somewhere and revamp this area of the park.

I hope that the next set of plans for MGM is focused on the backlot area. Whatever happened to the Chicago backdrop coming to Streets of America, anyway? It seems like they could have been a lot more organized when inserting LMA back here when it looked like they had a good opportunity to enhance this area of the park, but then they never went anywhere with it.
