Trip Payments...kinda nervous...

The 45 day mark for our upcoming trip is tomm (Fri.) and we will not be able to make the full payment that is due. I actually called Disney and the guy told me that we should get a letter in the mail if we do not put any money (or even just a little) toward it. My concern is this: would they pull the plug on our trip if we make a late payment? I'm very nervous about this :(...

Room only has a single nights deposit with balance due at checkin.

MYW Package has a $200 deposit with balance due 45 days before arrival.

If I am not mistaken on any Credit Card on the statement that your new charges show up on, no interest will be charged for the new charges. If you don't pay it off on that statement the interest starts to be charged after that.
So if I were you I would put it on a credit card, to at least buy you until the statement arrives to pay for it.

Can you get a Disney Visa. That will get you 6 months no interest. Make sure you can pay off the balance within that 6 months.

With all due respect to those of your trying to offer helpful advice... I honestly don't think putting a trip he can't afford at the moment on a credit card is wise.

Try to do all you can to make your final payment in the next few days. Good luck - you can definitely do it!

Actually, it depends on the card. We learned this one the hard way.

Credit cards can be your best friend or your worst enemy:goodnevil
They really can help you out in a pinch, but when used to purchasethings that you can't afford and not paid off by the month, they will be the bane of your existence, causing financial stress, marital stress, and personal stress.

I'd advise calling Disney to ask if you can split the payments into something more manageable (like half now, half in a couple of weeks). Asking never hurts, and very often helps.

I have to agree with KC on this. Putting money you don't have on a credit card can lead to problems. You can do it, try calling Disney maybe they will give you an extension if you give them some money now.

Another suggestion that might help is seeing if there is another resort available. I see that you're staying at WL, moving to even a moderate will save a considerable amount and make it easier to pay off quicker. Just a thought :-)

I also agree, but I was not trying to get him to put it on a credit card, just offering advice as to how the CC might work. And I understood from their post that they will have the money just not right this second. In that case, if it were me, I would use a credit card rather then risk having the trip being cancelled on me.
On the other hand, if we are telling him/her not to charge a vacation that he/she can't afford, then I have to wonder shouldn't we also be saying should they be going on vacation if they can't make the payments in cash?

I worried also about getting it paid off because we are self employed. So I called and what I did was take off the dining and all the tickets but one days worth for all 5 of us. It brought it down about 1900.00. Then 6 days before I will call and add it all back in and pay the 1900.00 at that time. it made it so much easier. We just paid off ours on Wed it was due then. Boy did it relieve stress.

Oh that's a pretty good idea =) We didn't add the dining plan til two weeks before our trip. So glad we did!

You people are making me nervous going on these expensive trips and not being able to afford them! I booked my trip 10 months out and have had an automatic transfer every week into a savings account I have JUST for Disney trips. That way I don't have to worry about coming up with a lump sum...and the direct deposit is such a small amount each week that it doesn't bother my other expenses.

Maybe not so much time should be spent into planning the actually Disney trip itinerary and more time should be spent in making sure the $$ is there for a trip like this!

like someone said, if you're not sure if you can pay for the trip...maybe you shouldn't be staying at a deluxe resort for a week...or maybe the vacations should be postponed a year...

no disrespect...

I would not have know this as a friend that goes all the time told us this. I did call and he told me exactly thatm that they would charge for the room all 8 days and one day of our tickets with park hopper option. The if we would call 72 hours before we are to arrive that they would add on the other days and add the dinning plan as well and then I must pay for it at that time. What a relief.... I had a terrible summer with our products so this helped me. I will have the cash then. That gave me 45 days more to add it.

I agree. I make the most money in one weekend in Nov than I do all year long. Its just getting to that weekend. I am not sweating it we can afford it and this will not put us in a hard spot at all. Even have all my cash saved up for the trip to spend while there and gas to get there. I have planned well and I will enjoy this with no worries how I can pay the bills after we get back. I just wish that years ago I had called and found out about the payment plan. I never knew it could have been this easy. We only decided in May. Question is how far in advance can you schedule your next trip with Disney. meaning over a year etc. I will go again in Dec but am sure others are thinking the same as I so that they can pay it out over time.

I guess, we are all looking at it from different angles which, is a good thing.(and thats the wonderful thing about these boards we get different perspectives on a situation).
