Does anyone know what will happen during the EPCOT Center's 25th Birthday aka Rededication Ceremony? Will they call it the EPCOT Center again?

To me, they don't have to add the word "Center" back to the name, but I would appreciate it if they would change Epcot back to EPCOT. Epcot means nothing, but EPCOT is the real acronym.

If it's the acronym you are worried about than it should actually be called E.P.C.O.T. Epcot (as it has come to be known as) is the pronunciation of the acronym. It's pefectly fine by me now mater what. I was there when it was EPCOT Center and the word "center" always made me feel like the park was a place to shop.

I just call....ummmm, write EPCOT....though I guess I could emphasize the word alil more when I say it from now on... I usually do SAY "EPCOT Center" but when you think about the acronym, the Center part really doesn't fit:
Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow....Center

see what I mean? it's almost redundant...

I have argued this before, but on a technicality EPCOT (the park) still is the Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow.

It was the first theme park to become a full fledged and permanent world's fair. The only thing than can remotely compare to this is Man and His World in Montreal, a permanent world showcase that took the theme from Expo67 and lasted from 1968-1982.

So its experimental, and surely a prototype. It's also a community of technology, of people, culture, and ideas. And it certainly has a shift on making tomorrow's world somehow a better place to live.

It stands as not so much as the center of walt disney world....as it once was...but even back then what it was to be built just south of the magic kingdom parkinglot it was going to be called the EPCOT Theme Center...so the center is more or less a center focus for the disney company on technology and culture.

Thus EPCOT and Center come together and form EPCOT Center.

In a way...since we call Magic Kingdom...The Magic Kingdom...it makes more sense for it to be called The EPCOT Center.

If one finds the old EPCOT acronym to be irelevant....I always thought a new EPCOT acroynm should be Earth's Peoples Cultures Objects and Themes Center

I much rather have the EPCOT acroynm back before than the center part. Seeing Epcot Center still is a diservice imo.

For the record..I like the new Acronym...It fits esp since "Epcot" is not just the Future World but also the World Showcase. And I remember reading about the "center" philosophy of EPCOT Center if the Imagineer's Field Guide after reading your post. :animwink:

Our group, Celebration 25, will be attending the rededication ceremony and taking part in our own activities to celebrate the special occasion. There are murmers here and there of possible announcements and surprises during the day, some of which I can confirm, others I can't. I know that something is taking place, but on what scale, I'm not sure. I personally am expecting some sort of announcement based on the Imagination pavilion, but I'm not sure. There is plenty of information out in the open for you all to find, you just have to look a little harder. If not, go to the ones that are on the inside, for a better idea. :animwink:

I recieved better news today, regarding the date, so I can say that there is defintely something brewing- the questions is "what is it?", and "how large?"
