Is MVMCP worth it?

I just read that MVMCP is extra cost. I guess you have to pay for an additional ticket and you basically stay after the park normally closes. Does this mean that if you go in december and don't pay the fee, you won't have any fireworks or parade? Is the additional charge worth it?

Thanks everyone! :king:

We went to the event last December. In my opinion, it is worth every penny. They have a special parade, children could get hot chocolate & cookies; meet w/ Santa. We had a great time. And yes, the rides were still open, and the lines were not long at all. I think the price is around $40 ticket.

But I want hot chocolate and cookies

So how does it work for the fireworks and parades? Are there none if you don't have the MVMCP ticket?

I say it's well worth the extra money. We were there last year and loved every minute of it. The parade is fantastic. My son jumped up and down and took tons of pics with his disposable camera. He was 3 at the time. Just seeing the joy on my kids faces made it worth much more than the price to get in. The fireworks were awesome! We pretty much walked right on Space Mountain. I think we waiting maybe 5 minutes if that.

Oh and the hot chocolate and cookies wasn't just for the kids. All of us adults had some too. It was so good.

Been going to WDW for past 25 years but have never done the MVMCP until last december. Our family thought it was great. Very little lines and the christmas parade was very well done. No lines to speak of, but it was cold. Which fits the theme. I don't know if I need to make it an annual event but its definitely worth trying once. Keep this in mind. You should decide before you go whether you want to do more rides or watch more shows. We wanted to see all the shows so we focused our efforts on that, we did manage to go on quite a few rides because there were no lines. But if you go in thinking your going to do everything thats probably unrealistic. Although I am sure its been done. We went on a Monday night which I think helped with the crowds. Oh don't waste a ticket that day going into the park, unless you need to see everything Magic Kingdom has to offer. If not relax at the pool so you can save your energy for the night time. Hope that helps.

I guess I will be the one who goes against the flow here. A little background before I give you my review...we had TERRIBLE weather Dec. 22-27 last year while we were staying at Ft Wilderness (the perfect holiday retreat in a cabin). Anyways, I found MVMCP to be nice, but not worth the extra cost. Yes the lines are shorter and they do offer Cookies and hot cocoa for EVERYONE, as well as smart choice snacks such as apples and baby carrots for free, you will also get a "holiday" themed park map, and there will be some "decent" shows... but I really did not find it to be worth it. To me, you really get that holiday feel by getting a break from the FL heat (I'm from Florida) and seeing the massive amounts of decorations that the parks have (which will still be there during the day) and you will certainly get in the holiday spirit. If short lines is what you crave than be sure to take advantage of the EMH. It was enjoyable, just not worth the money IMHO.

There are parades and fireworks on nights that the MVMCP is NOT offered, right? We're going Nov. 25-Dec. 1 and hoping to see Spectromagic and fireworks at MK while we're down there. The MK hosts SPECIAL parades and fireworks for the party as well (and have their standard parades and fireworks on the "off" nights) right? (I hope I'm right, I don't plan on spending an extra $160 for my family to see a Christmas parade and special fireworks...) :xmas:

What about fireworks? I suppose I would get "normal" Wishes if I went to Magic Kingdom on a EMH night and not a MVMCP night in early Dec?

You beat me to that question!

I guess the only big draw would be the Christmas parade and the atmosphere with the snow and such. Holiday wishes would be cool...but probably not worth the extra cost. Now that I think of it...maybe I could watch holiday wishes from the contemporary where they pipe the music in? :xmas:

Yes, it is worth the money in my opinion! We went last December 4th and had a wonderful time. Weather was great (a bit chilly) so it really set the mood. We all got hot chocolate and cookies, it "snowed" on Main Street USA, we watched the Christmas Parade and saw Holiday Wishes, which was worth the price of admission alone. They also have a couple of shows and character meet and greets. You can also visit with Santa. They only sell a limited amount of tickets so the lines for the attractions were not long. I think everyone should experience it at least once. We are going back this year on December 2nd :xmas: Have fun

Yes! We went last year and loved it. The parade alone was well worth the price for me. And the snow on Main Street. I wish I could go every year!! You should try it out.:xmas:

So funny to me, since we will be escaping the Minnesota winter to come enjoy the Christmas fun this year! We will feel like it is summer there probably! (Look for us--we will be the ones in the shorts and tank tops! )

We have never been to WDW at Christmas and the DD2.5 LOVES Christmas, so we have purchased the tickets to MVMCP and we cannot WAIT! We have heard lots of good things (along with some not so good) and think that we should try it for ourselves at least once. REALLY looking forward to it.

Of course, we get the 'raised eyebrow look' from friends and family when they hear that we had to pay for a SEPARATE ticket for it. (Ohmygosh! Are you kidding??) That's okay--they will be here in the frozen tundra looking kinda funny since that eyebrow froze that way!:ROFLOL:

Yes regular Wishes and Spectro Magic go on as normal on NON MVMCP nights. Actually the night we went to the party they did Wishes at 6 pm, cleared out the non party guests and the party started at 7. We were eating in Liberty Tree Tavern and could hear the fireworks. Then they did Holiday Wishes for the party guests during the party.

As to whether MVMCP is "worth it" is of course subjective. I think for any Disney fan, it is something that should be experienced at least once. Some are satisfied with that, others MUST do it every year. Yes there is the unique parade and fireworks, cookies and hot chocolate for everyone and access to rides, but as with most things Disney, there are many subtle offerings that are rarely talked about and often missed. There are at least half a dozen special musical presentations available. My favorite is the brass choir playing in Adventureland early in the evening (the musicians later appear in the parade). There are also various groups performing in Tomorrowland, choral groups in Liberty Square and other locations. There are also scheduled shows in various locations like the castle stage and Tomorrowland theater.

Edit: mnfootballmommy, at least we gave the same info!

Didn't have time to read the replies, but we did MVMCP in 2006 and it was well worth it!!! Low crowds, extremely short lines for rides, Christmas Parade, Holiday Wishes Fireworks, extra shows & character meet & greets, snow on main street... I would do it again. They have the regular fireworks early, so if your in MK all day, you get 2 different fireworks shows!
My advice: Juast do it! You won't regret it!
