My solo trip report (follow up)

First off, let me say thanks to the replies I got from my original message about going solo, found here:
http://forums.wdwmagic.com/showthread.php?t=208333

That out of the way, if you don't mind, I'd like to share my thoughts on what happened during the fun filled weekend...on with the post.

First off, never having been on the Magical Express I found I had to search about a half hour before finding the ticket counter. I guess I expected to see some signs pointing out where to go, this was mostly my mistake of not asking before I left of which side of the airport to go. For those who don't know it's on the B side of the airport, ground transportation, all the way down to the end.

I stayed at All-Star Music and chose to use the Disney buses to get me around for the 2 days, to me it made more sense since I was alone. I haven't ridden the buses for probably 12 years so getting somewhere took a little longer, not that I minded much. There was one trip though from Downtown Disney to Typhoon Lagoon to All-Star Sports to All-Star Music that took about an hour though that I didn't enjoy. The driver seemed to be brake happy and I was standing the whole time. Other than that the trips were perfect.

I got into my room around 12:30 and planned on going to Magic Kingdom right away, I also chose MK cause they had the extra magic hours going on so I could stay in the park until 3am. Right when I walked into the park I knew exactly what everyone was telling me about going solo. What a relaxing experience, ahhhhh. Don't get me wrong I love going with my wife and other people but when I was there alone I didn't feel I had to point out things or try to plan out the most effective path to the attractions. My walk down Main Street was at a snail's pace and I just smiled not really caring about what to see next. I spent the rest of the afternoon in the park just walking around really saving some attractions for the shorter lines later in the night. I think I left around 4pm and came back at 8 to watch the fireworks and get to enjoy the magic hours. Last I checked I ended up in bed at 2:45am to get up at 8:30 for Epcot.

Saturday day 2, got to Epcot around 10am and pretty much did everything in Future World before 2pm. I picked up fast-passes for Test Track and Soarin' because I knew one time on wouldn't be enough. I managed to get on Soarin' 3 times and Test Track 2. Again, during the day I took a break, left the park and took a walk over to the Beach Club where I jumped on a bus over to Downtown Disney and had my bus ride from hell on the way back to the room. I think I headed back to Epcot around 6pm and decided against waiting for Illuminations because I figured the buses would be packed and I needed to get some rest for my flight which was leaving at 7am on Sunday.

All in all, I had a wonderful time, the 2 days seem to crawl by and throughly enjoyed every minute of it. Being that me and my wife typically only go down after Thanksgiving I had a chance to experience Disney during the summer for the first time in probably 4 years. What a change of pace between the 2 seasons, wow.

Well we're expecting our first child in November and would have loved to go longer with my wife. Being that she's about 6 months pregnant and she hates the Florida heat during the summer she gave me a gift by letting me go for all the work I've been doing getting ready for the baby. She even sent me a very touching text message when I arrived saying 'I'm glad you got to break away. Especially to your favorite spot. You deserved it!' Needless to say I was a little teary eyed when I read it.
All that said, we're planning our trip for next year with our first born for their first birthday just after Thanksgiving. We both can't wait!!!

Well I got a great deal at All Star for $64 a night so that was my major deciding factor especially since I wasn't going to be in the room all that often. I've stayed there in the past and didn't have a problem. They have activities around the pool all day and at night they were showing movies on an inflatable outdoor movie screen. During my last night I got some ice cream and sat down by the pool to watch National Treasure.

You got me wanting more.

I think I want to hear about "the bus ride from hell!" :lookaroun

Ok here's a little more about the bus ride from hell. It started when I got on at Downtown Disney (Marketplace), bus got full really quick and I ended up standing (didn't mind too much but my feet were starting to kill me). The bus driver had to 'lock in' one handicapped person and also one of those motorized scooter type things which takes some time. I think it took him longer than some of the other drivers I've seen during the trip. Once everyone was on we headed over to Pleasure Island for stop number 2. Picked up about 5 more people on an almost full bus. After that it seemed we hit EVERY stop light on the way to Typhoon Lagoon. We get to Typhoon Lagoon and theres a line of people about 30-40 waiting for our bus. Again, more people cram on the bus with many people who were in line looking ed off that they had no space left. Doors close and on we go. We're driving the normal route when all of a sudden the driver makes a turn (just past Caribbean Beach) to head towards World of Sports and Pop Century. Now I know this back way but to me it seems totally out of the way and much longer than just going straight past MGM, Swan Dolphin, Blizzard Beach. UGHHHHH! The whole time too it seems he's brake happy hitting the brakes late or just tapping them for no real reason. We got back to my resort after the stop at All-Star Sports but what I had hoped to be a 30 min bus ride ended up turning into an hour long detour back to my room.
