September 18th! That's when one of the features from my favorite movie of the year, Grindhouse, will be on DVD! Unrated and extended too!
Here's the information and cover art...

Also, Best Buy will carry it with a neat collector's tin. Planet Terror will be out on October 16th too! (Then we'll just have to wait and see when we can get a collector's edition with the Double Feature cut including the great trailers.) Also beware Grindhouse fans, Robert Rodriguez's "Machete" is going to be a direct to DVD movie!

Grindhouse as a whole got 3 out of 4 stars from me. Those three stars only came from Planet Terror and the "trailers"...Death Proof was horrible.

Why are they releasing these as individual movies...I dunno, kinda takes the point of the "old school double-feature" aspect of the movie away from it.

Bad move QT and RR. Keep it as one solid movie-going experience...don't break this up.

Death Proof gets better the second time around. (Plus it helps when you know bad movies for a living!)

And don't blame them for the split release. It's The Weinstein Company's fault. They forced them to do a split release because they want their money back. (Even though it's still one of the best reviewed movies of the year!)

My question is...in the individual releases...are they just going to throw away the fake trailers? Those being "IN" the movie made the entire experience better...just having those as "extras" won't do it.

I have a feeling the MANY people will wait for the "total package" to come out...so they actually could lose money on the release.

Ooh, I can't wait! I loved Grindhouse. I liked Death Proof, but not as much as Planet Terror by a long shot, but it was still good. It really is a shame Grindhous flopped. It really is an amazing movie.

The fake trailers will have to be released on one or both of these sets. If they do not include the fake trailers, people will hold out and not buy. The special features look decent enough for me to buy both, but the trailers have to be there.

I agree that it should be released as a double set. That was definitely a great moving-going experience for me! I loved Planet Terror and the fake trailers just added to the feel of what they were going for with the double-feature.

To me it wasn't a double feature...it was a regular movie giving a nod to the old "grindhouse" film going experience.

Heck, each individual "film" had nods to the other one.

I guess, in the long run, the "art and vision" takes a backseat to the all-mighty dollar.

They are considered to be full-length films. (From the start it was always going to be two real films back-to-back, shown under the Grindhouse double-bill.) I do think they work best as a double feature. But do know that they keep saying that we WILL be getting the full thing one day. (Problem is, when is "One day"!)

I still get sad that my favorite film of the year did so poorly at the box office. And I know it'll do bad on DVD because if the midwest types don't get what the Grindhouse was in the theatres, I doubt they'll actully BUY just one of the films.
:(

(Also, any Grindhouse fans heading to Hot Topic should look at their mini-posters. They have the MACHETE poster! It's great!)
