Ruby Slippers from Wizard of Oz still at MGM?

One would think that THE actual ruby slippers would be more important than fur coats from a recent movie.

I think it's more about keeping things fresh than anything else. With the wide array of move memoriabilia items that disney does own, who is to say one thing is more important than another. Each person will have a different opinion on what's important.

There is actually 6 known pairs, 4 are owned by private collectors and 2 that were test pairs. One is at the Smithsonian and the other hasn't surfaced. The pair at the Smithsonian doesn't match.
Yeah, they are different sizes...they messed up in wardrobe during the film shoot!

One set has disapeared as well...was on display at the Garland museum and was stolen a couple of years ago.

Another set is owned by a guy who went to jail for stealing costumes for other films and hasn't been on display since he purchased them.

I like the versions Debbie Reynolds has, even though they were never used - they are a really interesting piece of Hollywood history. I saw her on some History Channel/Travel Channel thing showing them off...they are really long and ugly, but pretty in a strange sort of way.

It's a shame they can't have a pair on display at MGM - about as secure a place as they could be. That some people have them stashed away in vaults instead is really sad. :(

What surprised me on my last trip was in the collectibles store just inside the entrance to the park. They had ________ van 's striped jacket from the Jolly Holiday scene in "Mary Poppins" for sale. It was in a glass case and cost a fortune. Anyone know if it's still there?

It's still a piece of movie history, irregardless. *steps off soapbox*

So was the Star Wars holographic chess table (at least IMHO) but they got rid of it for the Narnia children's costumes... again UGH!!!
