Harry Potter themed land officially announced for IOA

Opening in 2010, the amusement industry's worst kept secret is now out
of the bag. No name for the actual *ride* has been announced yet it
seems, though the land appears to be renamed "Hogsmeade" (which really
could be the name of an ACE buffett under any other circumstance!)

The terminology in the article is a bit confused - so do not get hyped
for a third gate park. This is in fact the Lost Continent over-lay
that has been rumored for a long time. The scale is quite grand
though, so none the less it's exciting (even for a non-Potter fan like
myself.) Everything in the land should be re-themed to a certain
extent - in some cases more than others.

See: http://www.mugglenet.com for details and one (moderately small)
piece of concept art for the land. They promise to have exclusive art
from Universal in the near future - as well as provide a link that
will soon be the official Universal Orlando sub-site for the new
attraction.

Look for it to hit the US news outlets possibly by morning; it was a
press event in London about an hour ago to announce it officially.

Is this the appropriate part of the post for the cue of "I told you so's" ?

that looks quite impressive. I would actually head over to Universal to see this. However, will Dueling Dragons simply be rethemed to fit this land or will it be removed completely? I could see a reasonably simple retheming (which I think is necessary if they want this open in 2 years) involving the first task of the Triwizard Tournament.

Dragons is being re-themed, but not going anywhere. Just the location of the queue's entrance is changing location.

To be honest, I'm really surprised that JK Rowling has "settled" on simply letting Universal, re-theme an already existing area. It seems like much too strong a series/franchise to simply get a "land" devoted to it.......perhaps this will just be a testing ground, with a full-fledged park coming later if this proves to be profitable.

What other Potter attractions will they be including, other than a re-tooled Dueling Dragons?.....I can see it becoming Quidditch themed.......cars remade to look like giant brooms.

So it really was true!

Well I'll have to wait until our next next trip before I see this! Never mind, any excuse to go back to Florida is fine by me!

This is great news! I mean, bad for Disney in the short run, but great for us tourists in the long run. Honestly, I was a bit worried that Universal hadn't announced anything new or exciting in the last couple of years to keep our beloved Walt Disney Company on its toes.

This announcement will only light the fire under Disney to come up with better attractions/lands to compete in the next couple of years. Lord of the Rings or Narnia? ABC's LOST?

(And oh yeah, HP fan that I am, I *will* be checking out IOA, for the first time ever, once this land opens)

Pirates are on the horizons! Don't be surprised when a big announcement is made regarding pirates in the parks is made by the end of the summer. Disney's been waiting for this and they are far from unprepared.

Another Pirate's attraction would be very cool, however, I'm not sure Disney would do this sue to POTC being a flagship classic, and POTC2: the ride, would make no sense!

This is only good

This and various other developments in the area are only good for us Disney fans.

With Busch's new Water park at Sea World coming soon and Busch Gardens and Sea World both rumoured for a new coaster in or around 2009, now the official go ahead for Potterland, Dinsey will now have to retaliate in the way they know best. One up man ship.

Which is good for us coz it means more new attractions. Disney will have to pull another Everest scale attraction or maybe two for the 2009/2010 season now.

hmm

Im happy for universal because this might bring in people like me to their park now.

Disney has nothing to worry about though. Universal needs more then this land to take away business from universal. Remember disney has its whole feel and customer service behind it wich has not been replicated in any other park yet.
