New Additions To Pirates

Anyone know the status of the additional changes that were planned for Pirates?

My understanding was that there was to be the addition of William Turner and Elizabeth.

I also think it would be very cool to add the song at the open of "At World's End" somehow into the attraction.

Certainly not to replace the current theme, but maybe in a new scene, or maybe as you enter or leave the attraction you can encounter Pirates singing that song which gave me goosebumps when the emprisoned pirates sang it together in unison.

If they were to be added, there would have been a refurbishment. They need to wire up the AAs, light them, add the sound, and program them. Yes, they do plan all this ahead of time, but the light needs to be done on-site as well as the programming. Trust me, it doesn't take a day to sync audio and movement either. That guy was working on the new AA's movement that went in the last refurb every day up until a week before it opened.

As for adding new music, I still think they need to bring back the creepy organ music that was playing for about 2 days in the upper grotto during the refurb. Too scary my butt!

When PotC 4 is announced, I wouldn't be surprised if PotC had some downtime (like it did before the release of Potc:DMC) to make some additional changes. I don't necessarily want this to happen nor do I think it could be as successful as adding Captain Jack and Barbossa, but it wouldn't be a shock. I just hope Disney realizes that Jack and Barbossa are actually good characters, whereas Elizabeth and Will are simply teen's crushes who lend forgettable roles to the films.

Oh, and OP, you might want to preface anything--even something in the beginning of the film--with "spoiler" so you don't upset others who have yet to see the film.

Last I heard it wasn't happening.
Things change, but until you hear of an extended downtime at Pirates....forget about it.

There is only so much they can pack in without completely changing the ride. They would be almost better off making a 2nd pirates attraction at MGM than over-re-doing this one. Make it a bit more thrilling too.

 I take offense to that!!! Will and Elizabeth add a nice story/understory to the movies so far (I have not seen the third yet), and I think that while they might not be IMPERATIVE to the basic plots of the movie, they are INTEGRAL to what the story has become.

Also, they are not teen's crushes. I'm 27 :D and desperately in love with Keira Knightley.

It's already been said by Johnny Depp and Disney that if a good script is written, he will sign on for 3 more POTC films.
He's been saying that since 2/3 started filming. He has also said this is his favorite role ever. Really, Depp wanted NOTHING to do with Disney until this thing started to get up and running and he was able to have creative input into it. He is really proud of this character and series because he invested himself into it. Sounds like traditional Disney entertainment more and more huh. I'm really impressed that the company's hands off attitude has turned out so greatly for all sides. Maybe this will be used as a model for more creative ventures in the future?

overkill. adding too much water to orange juice just dilutes it.

isn't there supposed to be a jungle cruise movie? put some major love into that movie and have three of them.

Ah, but if they are guaranteed to make $200m+ right out of the box, and the main character wants to do it, you'd be stupid to not do the movies.

James Bond movies still do decent after all this time.

I think many people forget that Will and Elizabeth have intergral roles in these movies (especially in the third film yet. I haven't seen it, but I have played the video game, so I know they're important to the story.)

As for Will and Elizabeth Audio Animatronics, I thought it was a done deal. I remember them interviewing either a Disney exec. or one of the movies writer's (Ted or Terry) and they mentioned how they were going to add AAs to the ride, along with mentioning the new Jungle Cruise movie and National Treasure 2.

I don't think it would take that long to add them to the ride if they just added one figure each. They could add it at night, and cleverly conceal them for a couple of days until they are ready to be unveiled.

I don't know about adding them at night. They would have to synchronize the audio (they have to add new dialogue to explain why these characters are there) and that takes time. I would be really disappointed if they just stuck them in there to have greater movie tie-in.

I still think it's a bad idea. We may enjoy their characters, they just aren't as memorable. I think that's due to the acting abilities of Bloom and Knightley.

Actually, that would be the simplest solution. They could carefully and subtley add them in the background. Not really a part of the story, but something guests can look out for and enjoy spotting.

For example, they could stick Elizabeth Swan in the Auction scene. Looking at it that way, there is no real need to explain why they're there. As long as they planned it out ahead, I seriously doubt it would take that long to synche up the new AAs. (In fact they might not even speak, just be there to add to the whole excitement of it all.)

Things change, but until you hear of an extended downtime at Pirates....forget about it.

I don't really see a need for a huge extended downtime to add two AAs. If I recall, when Disneyland added the new "Black Widow" bride, the Haunted Mansion wasn't down for a long time (if at all.)

What spoiler? You didn't know that there would be music in "At World's End!?!" C'mon now.

Watch "At World's End" before you make any character judgements on Will and Elizabeth. I wouldn't say that a king has a "forgettable" role. :king:

I seriously hope they do not do this. I can understand Cap'n Jack, because that is an over-the-top character...he can fit into the Pirates ride just hanging around doing random stuff. Will and Elizabeth are just normal people who are nothing special besides being in the movie. The ride is not the same as the movie...what are these characters going to do for the ride?
