We called & requested the 50's bldg. at the Pop Century Resort for our stay in Sept.
We do not have a preferred room, so what are the odds that we will get our request?

Well, if the 50s building is a preferred (which I dont know if it is or not) building, probably not since it costs extra to stay in.
I think only certain rooms are considered preferred.
We just asked to be in that bldg.
I hope we get it!
If not, the 70's are my 2nd choice - but who really cares - it's WDW, right!?!

I had a preferred room in September. I have a problem with my foot and wanted a preferred becuase I was concerned how I'd feel when we got back to the hotel. In the parks, I could always get a chair if I needed it. Anyway, we were waaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyy off to the side. I went back and said I paid for a preferred. They showed me a map and told me they expanded on the preferred rooms. Basically, they are all preferred except for the outside rooms. All I had to do was walk out of my room and around the corner and they were the "standard". I should have saved my $100.

The 60's building is the prefered building (right next to the pool/main lobby).

The 50's are off to the side.

I'm sure if it isn't too crowded, they'll be happy to give you the 50's building.

Hope that helps. :)

All of the 60's are perferred rooms and as of last year they made some rooms in the 50's and 70's as well. So when we checked in they told us that was true but only rooms facing the pool and main buildings if u take a lakeside room or one facing the parking lot they are not concidered as perferred...hope this helps.

Seems like the more people request the faster they change them to pref. rooms. This happened w/movies. We loved dalmation bldg 1 because it was so close to everything. Now in August we are paying extra for that bldg (or Toy Story).

We just got back from the Pop and had preferred rooms in the 50's building. Preferred has something to do with a certain proximity to Classics Hall which is the lobby/food area.

I was wondering the exact same thing, only not in the preferred section. I LOVED our rooms in the 90's building that we had this past March and would kill to get the same rooms again when we go in March 2009. I wanted to know if they would let me book them if I made my reservations up to a year in advance and I was basically told by a Pop Century CM on here that your room isn't actually assigned until the day (or two) before your arrival. This makes sense to me but I am still going to try to ask for those rooms when we book next March (crossing fingers and toes).

We've stayed in the 50's twice now...all we've done is ask upon check in. For our trip in Sept/Oct, we paid extra for the preferred (60's) because we'll be traveling with my father-in-law, who is disabled.

Hi you can try but I have tried to get a room that we requested the last 3 years and they were never available. The request was on our reservations we faxed we tried everything we also booked about 10 to 11 months in advance, and when we got there ....nope. But they always put us as close as they could to where we wanted to be and honestly every single time we likes our new room location better than the last. :sohappy:

Pop does not have specific buildings designated as preferred like other value resorts. A map of preferred locations can be found here: http://willcad.org/disney_maps.html

Ideally... certain rooms in the 50s, 60s, and 70s buildings are considered preferred.

My first stay at Pop was this past January and we were placed in a ground floor room in building 2 (Juke box) of the 50s section. It was about a 5 minute walk to the main building and I absolutely loved the overall section. It was very "private" and I enjoyed having the pool steps from my door. We enjoyed the themeing more than the 80s/90 section which also has a similar setup (3 buildings around 1 pool). It was close to the lake, main pool, parking, and food court so we couldn't complain! Some rooms that face the lake even allow you to see pieces of Illuminations.

Requesting a room in the 50s section is your best bet! They have 3 buildings compared to two (60s, 70s, 80s) and 1 (90s).

Good luck and enjoy your trip!

Thanks farmgirl. I know what you are saying about liking the new room better. We actually stayed in the 80's building facing the parking lot on our first trip 2 years ago and I loved that room and was honestly hoping to get there again this time. They originally screwed up our reservation this past March and had us in non-adjoining rooms (we requested and needed adjoining rooms) way out in the 50's building (which we hated). When we went down to try and remedy the situation, they placed us in the 90's building and we absolutely loved those rooms.

Who knows, maybe next time we get even better rooms again.:sohappy:
