Utilidors...

I'm trying to get a grasp of how big the "First Floor" of the Magic Kingdom is.

I really want to know where it ends.

I've seen the map of the utilidors, but never could really tell where the building itself ends as compared to "on stage". Does it go all the way to the berm? Is BTMR over the utildors. Is Jungle Cruise?

How come I've seen construction photos of the MK, but never of the first floor being constructed?

That would be a pretty neat picture, at least for me!

The utilidoors mirror the layout of the MK onstage fairly well. However, it's not really a continuous building, more of a series of connected hallways. In general, if you're walking on a major pathway in MK, there's likely a utilidoor coridoor more or less below you. It also is built around a sort of hub and spoke system, with spurs going out to the varioius lands. Instead of an actual hub, there is a circular hallway going around the hub, with spokes heading out to Ad/Lib/Fronteirland and Tomorrowland.

Its extension out into Fronteirland is actually fairly limited. BTMR is not over utilidoors. Not sure about Jungle Cruise, but I don't think it's over utilidoors either.

The "tunnel"'s main enterence is right underneith the Restrooms and Villiage Haus, it mainly goes underneit buildings. No it does not go undre BTMR, it goes under the buildings that devide Adv.land and Frontierland. and ends at Pecos Bills. bothsides of Mainstreet under the buildings. it goes under the castle and under Cosmic Ray's, the main parts of the tunnel are under fantasyland and main street. The tunnel its self it pretty big, BRINKS trucks go down in there to pick up the money from the "bank" that is down there. Its maily just a big circle with a little section that brances of for Adv and Front.. It's really not that exciting, it smells really bad in a lot of parts!

So basically, what you see on the Ulidors map is what you get?

Regardless of the smell and the noise..I thought it was pretty cool..:)

I believe that the utilidors are one of the reasons that makes WDW special.

It an engineering design that separates Disney from other Theme Parks by keeping the not-so-pretty well hidden.

So to get from Tomorrowland to Frontierland you have to walk around, there's no cut through the center?
Correct.

And I'll second the comments about smell. I found the stretch between Liberty Square and Frontierland to be particularly pungent. I, too was startled just about every time AVACS fired up.
