I can't make up my mind!!

I'm getting a new car on Monday and I'm completely torn between a Volkwagen (sp?) Jetta 2.5 or a Toyota Corolla S.

They're both around the same price, the Corolla is "sportier looking" but the Jetta has leather. Insurance is slightly higher on the Corolla but the gas mileage is 30/38 compared to Jetta's 22/30. My payments with the Jetta would be around $300 and the Corolla around $260. They both have moon roofs and are both the same color (dark gray).

HELP!!!! Any opinions/suggestions on either model that would sway me one way or ther other would be appreciated!

Even though I like the look of the Jetta I'd go with the Corolla. Great car with an even better payment. I have owned a few VW's and they seem to need more service than my current Honda. Maybe just luck of the draw. See if you can find a cost of ownership over a 5 year period this may help.

No matter what a new car is always a great feeling. Love that smell!

I'd go with the Corolla. While I've known people that have been pleased with their Jettas, the majority aren't. They aren't the most reliable cars in the world. Plus the Corolla is cheaper, thats all I'd need to know to make a decision.

I haven't driven or compared both cars, but based on my general knowledge, I would expect the Toyota to be:

1. Less expensive (in original price, gas, maintenance, etc.)
2. More practical
3. More reliable
4. More comfortable with more features for the price

I would expect the VW to be:

1. Sportier - more responsive and more fun to drive
2. More unique

For my personal tastes, I would go with the VW, but it really depends on what you're looking for.

Enjoy!

A friend just got a Corolla. This is a person who usually wont shut up about cars, reads all the stats and such, but was getting the car as a gift from a rich aunt so he'd have a reliable car for grad school.

Consumer Reports said the Corolla was good too.

So i say Corolla.

Jetta's are @$$. Once they are out of Warranty... they are garbage. Stick with the Corolla... it will last a good 4-5 years longer than the Jetta, at least!

I would go with the Corolla if for no other reason but the gas mileage. Gas is over $3/gallon here again. My mom used to have a Corolla (1996) and she liked it alright. Her main problem with it was the lack of power locks and windows, but she opted for the base model, so it was her own fault. Now she has a 2002 Honda Accord SE and that car is really awesome. I hope to inherit it someday.

I have never been in a Jetta, but I tried out a Beetle when I was shopping for a new car and that thing was awful. It made me sad because I always wanted one, but there was no way I could drive that thing around all the time. I ended up getting a Ford Taurus stationwagon which I like very much.

Decisions, decisions.

Jetta - quality materials, drives like a charm, light steering, handles well, feels like quality... UNRELIABLE.
Corolla - quality materials, drives like it has a suspension made of Twinkies, has no soul, slow slow slow, image problems... RELIABLE!
