What's with all the hate for Space MOuntain?

I love Space Mountain :)
Its a classic, like a hug from the past  Granted its a very jerky hug, but I still love it

I have not ridden any other Space Mountain incarnations, so I cannot compare, but I hear DL's SM is amazing now.

My daughter absolutely love's SM, and I think it is ok but I think it does need some rehab, as I don't appreciate the jerkiness of the ride. Though to me it's not anywhere near as jerky as Primevil Whirl, that one is so jerky and it's made that way.

I haven't ridden space in DL in 6+ years. Rode WDW space in dec 2006. I think the whole preshow/postshow experiece is appropriate for tomorrowlands vision of what people thought the future might be like. I wouldn't want a whole complete makeover although smoothing things out would be nice.

For those who complain about space: what is it you want done? specifics?

btw: add our famliy to the anti SGE, once was more than enough for our gang. It just didn't appeal to us..even the youngest didn't care for it.

Um...There isn't really any hate- but most of us believe that the track needs to be smoothed out, and that the sets could use a little sprucing up here and there. No hate... just time for some updates...

I think that WDW is the bas*ard child of the parks when it should be the flagship of all the resorts. THIS WAS WALTS DREAM PARK!!!!!! not disneyland or anything overseas which who knows what he would have thought of that. WDW should have the best of everything. Better themeing and detail like disney SEA and more attractive rides and looks like euro disney with their dragon under the castle and the fancy everything they got. It really ticks me off. Hate is a strong word to use, but i strongly dislike all the other parks because of that. Of course I do like the charm of old school WDW and the smells of the older rides because i am used to it but some things need to be fixed and updated.

Space mountain is great the way it is but i would like the post show fixed up even tho when you leave everyone just pushes by you to get out and doesnt look at all of it anyway.

I don't understand all the hate for Space Mountain. I think everything about it is perfect and should remain untouched. When you walk up to it and the great queue. I understand people say it's dark and really builds up to the ride from the star pictures and quiet erie music. Then the actual ride is great, is fast, fun and feels a little dangerous to keep it thrilling. Finally the end queue with the whole "one day you might be expirencing an off world expirence" or something to that extent. It really goes with that old science fiction theme of tomorrland and think it's wonderful. Then again this is coming from somebody who's favorite land is Tomorrowland from the neon blue lights and beautiful rock formations to the mechanical trees. I love it, but I do hate stich and am scared that the Laugh Floor could dimish the land even more but I have hope it won't. Thoughts?

It's because Space Mountain at DL is much better

so you think its ok to run a shambolic rickity joke of a ride? its CRAP, it needs gutting and rebuilt - it just feels like a ride i could go on at a fun fair - albeit not in a room with 'star effects'.

Its also highly unsuitable for pretty much anyone over 6 foot as you need to fold yourself in half to get in it!

DLRP is the probably the best one in all of the disney parks... albeit not the best coaster - but still a good ride. Although this will never get implemented at magic kingdom - they need to at least do something - the sound of old drag lifts drowns out practically any sound effect they use. The bit where your shot off (but still only going 5mph) is deafening and the little *bang* its just laughable. Get rid of two short tracks and make a faster longer, higher capacity coaster that is fun to ride!

specifics (as asked for a few posts up) - well they could have a *proper* launch hill aka the one at dlrp - not too intense, even the one at dlrp slows down at the top (like it is at the moment)

working the riders back down to the station. You could have some nice steep drops and steep banking corners. No real inversions as i still think it needs to be in a similar spirit to which it currently is, which is a family coaster.

Themeing - well look at rrnrc as a fine example to start with, from that also look at sm paris, and not have 'star blankets' which are draped around polls and rubbish pre digital projections - which just remind me of science in primary school, or a really out dated planetarium.

Utilize the whole building properlly - and get rid of the (what it feels like) neverending exit - and utilize it for the ride....

same with the queing system at the start - have it going through the actual ride areas, give it some atmosphere!

Do you have a heart, seriously. Because all you seem to care about are thrills and cheap effects. Its not rubbish its classic and it fits WDW's Tomorrowland perfectly. How you ask? WDW's TL is based on a Future that never was. SM showcases a 70s future which makes it fun. Every Time I go through the exit I don't hear ppl complaining I hear ppl saying how much they loved it. Its classic, not Paris, Anahiem, Tokyo, or Hong Kong so get over it. And the reason the tunnels are so long is because they go under the WDW railroad track and I love the queue, and the exit. I know we're not running a museum, but we're not running a thrill park either.

I have not been on it in 5 years as my wife did not want my daughter to ride it for fear if she got scared she is not really in the car with you. I have wanted to ride alone but everytime I went by it was too long a wait. I did enjoy it the last time I did ride it but totally see how it needs updating. What was once the ride of all rides has kind of faded in terms of popularity and my not going for 5 years I guess is a testiment to that. If I really, really wanted to do it, I would have waited the lines.

Count me in as not understanding the hatred. I think it still is a heck of a ride, and I don't feel the jerky/ricketiness of it at all. But, to each his own. I would like to see the building repaired a bit for light traps, the lift had a little added to it, and the queue covered in some way (with windows) just to restore the ride's dark nature. But, I like the ambient audio instead of ride track. I like the single row seats. I like the entry queue for the most part.

EDIT - And, just to add in, my last ride was October 2006, and others with me (some who had been in 04, others not since 96) agreed that it was a fun, smooth ride.

A very interesting development here is how many people are harping on theme for this attraction compared with its surroundings. Not trying to rehash anything; just saying it is interesting that this argument is arising compared with other TL happenings.

*checks pulse* yep i still have a fully functioning heart...i think.....

if you actually read my post :lookaroun i actually insinuated that i didnt want the 'extreme' of dlrp - all i said was to pull everthing out, making it feel alot more refreshed. One track system would mean a faster ride, but it would end up probably more like EE then you would think. Just because they change the track layout doesnt instantaniously mean that there will be corkscrews, switch backs, and one huge loop that would ruin the essence of the ride.

Infact i KNEW i shouldnt of commented as people who mention the c word (change) or the f e r words (full exstensive rehab) as i would just get flamed off by some jumped up disney gustapo who instaniouslly seem to scoff at the idea of the c word (more to the point seemed to hate any change disney has made to a ride in the last 20 years...). Merely by expressing my own opinion of the ride, you have decided that im wrong - and more for the matter not even read my post (you probably got down to the third line).

Yes its suppossed to mirror a future that never was - but in all honesty so is sm in dlrp where it followed along the lines of jules verne.... Although it had a rehab its still DOESNT follow any sense of reality - and its still a good ride (to be fair they didnt really do anything with the track) albeit the story is lost compared to the stylization of the first version.

I have a hatred for High School Musical. I don't like the movie at all and i won't watch the sequel. I also think they shouldn't have a Pep Rally.
I DON'T LIKE HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's a classic. Upgrade, new track, smoother, faster etc. change any way it said it's change. I personally believe 30+ years old and it's fine for me that is. If everyone wants change then a new coaster might be good for them. Keep it the way it was created and designed.
I love the older wooden coasters from my childhood day too. Todays coasters are great, don't get me wrong. Smooth, fast and yes, thrilling. But none of them would be here without the design of SM or the wooden coasters.
If it bothers people because it tosses you from side to side then my advice is don't ride it. If it makes your back hurt or you think it's too slow, don't ride it. If you think it needs to be replaced, then don't ride it. Be patient and wait for the new Space Mountain that's faster, smoother and doesn't hurt to ride.
Change doesn't work for everyone and it's not always best.

What are you talking about???

Anyway, I def. agree that Space Moutain needs an update. It was rickety, audio was horrible and what bugged me was it wasn't dark enough, you can see where you're going. This could be a personal opinion but I think it's way better when it's dark.

I rode DL Space Mountain plenty of times but the last time was 7 yrs ago and it was still better than the one at WDW. I'm sure now it must be amazing.

For the people who are saying they don't want to change a classic ride, you can update a ride without losing the classic feel of it. I know I don't want to go on SM in WDW again because it was so rickety it gave me a huge headache, not worth it for me, but again everyone has their opinions.

I'm surprised no one else has mentioned this. I love the Space Mountain rides, especially the updated one at Disneyland, but for both WDW and DL versions, I totally feel they need some DROPS in them! There's too much "right turn.....left turn.....left turn....right turn" and not enough actuall drops. I know this would probably be a big hassle, as it would require a rehaul of the track layout itself, but that is really the only thing that bugs me about the rides.

I loved, loved, loved it in 2002..2006..not so much.

I think it's just served it's purpose. It was a roller coaster, a themeless coaster, but a roller coaster..and now that we're getting better things, like Everest, we look back at SM and go, "It's really not that great."

When I was riding it in November, I was paranoid I was going to be decapitated or something. :lookaroun And it was way too creaky..couldn't stand it.

see your awesome cos you agree with me... and you didnt mention the change word...

im just a mere mortal in your presence

I think that everything about Space Mountain is awesome; the ride, queue area, and the arcade are awesome. I wish they would have some type of post-show like they used to have when Fed-Ex was the sponsor. I hope that no major changes are made in the future and that the entire ride remains the same!
