Just wondering if anyone has been to the new Captain Cooks at the Polynesian resort. Pictures would be great. Did anyone try the dole whips?? Do they taste the same as the MK?? Can't wait to see it next week. :slurp:

I ate there for lunch the day they opened. Popped in on my way from the TTC parking lot. LOTS of managers there! The place looks great!

The touch screen ordering is kind of overkill, IMHO. You use it to do your order (food only), print the receipt and take it to the register. You still get a pager when your order is ready for pickup after you pay. Seems it would be just as easy for the cast member to just take the orders at the register. I have no doubt some people will be way too intimidated/confused by those screens.

I'm also not a big fan of their new menu offerings. They have a double bacon cheeseburger ~ but not just a plain single burger. Don't know how you get ala carte items (such as the burger) ~ assuming they are available still. Most items come with these odd chips, which were not that tasty. Fries are an extra $ side item now. There is no longer a topping bar either.

I'm going to withhold judgment until my stay at the Polynesian next week when I can check it out a couple times.

I ate at Cook's for lunch on Thanksgiving. I ordered the aloha pork sandwich. it was just ok, I ended up scraping off all the coconut coleslaw...I prefer my meat sandwiches not to be sweet tasting.

I for one did not like the new Captain Cooks. Here's why.

1. The decor is just too clashy. From the ceiling to the walls to the floor to the tables, everything is bold and stands out. It's like they tried too hard on improving the look of Captain Cooks.

2. Dole Whips. They are here, and they are still tasty! But it only comes in one flavor, pineapple. So those of you who are fans of pineapple-vanilla swirl, you can still only get that in Adventureland.

3. Tonga Toast. Is it supposed to be a giant cube of fried, sugar-coated bread? Well, that's what I ate. And I thought it was disgusting.

4. Wontons. They are sooooo heavy, they just do not make a good side item.

5. The touch screen stuff is pointless. You order your food on the touch screen, but you have to pay for it before they start to make it. So you take the printed receipt to the register (after choosing your grab-and-go items), and they will give you a pager. It is confusing and often time-consuming. On Wednesday, they even gave my food to other people!

I went there practically every day (for my dole whips). I was not that impressed. Try it for yourself though. You could like the new Captain Cook's.

I think that does sound like a lot of work for a counter service location. Maybe they should have a register (with CM) for cash only, then offer the screens for those paying with Dining Plan or credit card. (Like those store self checkouts- one CM can be there for any problems). Then guest get their receipt with a LARGE number on it and a LARGE screen that announces guests number, when it's ready! (I say LARGE because as we all know, there will always be that one guest that never hears or sees their number). I think that would be easier and less steps to mess up!

But , mmmm, Dole Whips... that is what I am talking about...whoever thought of bringing them out of the MK needs a raise!!! PRONTO!!!!

I witnessed another problem with the touch screen ordering the other day...kids love it. I watched as one kid was playing on one while the parents were busy (i.e. not watching him) at another screen. He just keep adding things to his own order. Of course, he was smart enough to submit the order too! The CM got on top of that one quick letting the kitchen know they should not make it. I watched alot of kids being drawn to those things.

Again, as when it first opened, the CM at the register still has to key in each individual item ordered on the touch screen slip. Looks like it pretty much just serves the purpose of sending the order to the kitchen before paying for it.

What is Disney thinking?

Actually, the order isn't submitted to the kitchen until paid for at the register. We found out the hard way. We submitted our order for flatbread at the touchscreen and waited, waited, waited for it. Finally, a cook saw us, asked what we were waiting for and said we had to pay for it before it would be submitted to them. Doh! Missed that one.

I absolutely despise the touchscreens. It is a waste of time and doesn't save anything. In fact, the families spend longer at a touch screen then with a real person, so it doesn't save anything.

The flatbread was great but the experience was awful. We did speak with a manager, just to let him know, and he said he had heard negative comments from several people.

Hmm, the CM was sure going crazy getting the kitchen to not make that kid's large order. I can assure you he didn't pay for it!

I say remove the touch screens and put a toppings bar there. There wasn't much to put on my burger. As for the rest of the menu, it's just okay and not a place I particularly look forward to eating at anymore.

I say A+ on the remodel, a C on the menu and a D on the order process.

We ate there several times this week. I actually like the touch screen ordering and never had a long wait for food. We bought the soulvenier(sp) mugs and went there as frequently as we could. I had 2 dole whips (my firsts!) and they were very good. Just had the Tonga Toast for breakfast this morning before our flight, lol. My dd didn't like the mushy banana in the middle.

I wonder if they changed the process after seeing what was happening (i.e. kids/adults ordering food just for fun and then not picking it up)?

Anyways, I concur that the menu wasn't that great to get us to go back again. Nothing too special, IMHO.
