Contemporary Theater Shows

I have a hardcover book of 20 Magical Years of Walt Disney World and it talks about everything that was happening during the year. One I stumbled across and surprised that nothing has been mentioned but, when I got the section about the Contemporary Resort I saw a picture showing a Musical style show. According to the book it was called "Broadway from the Top" I didn't even know about this...Was there any other shows that they have done? And when did they stop doing these shows?

We never did go to that show, but I do remember it...Back in the late 70's/early 80's? It was at the resturant on top of the Contemporary...I can't remember its current name.

I think back then it was called "Top of the World" or something of that nature.

Before Cal Grill, there was Top of the World - the name of the 15th floor. Think brown carpets and orange walls :D
If I recall the restaurant took up the northern half, and Broadway at the Top was in a separate theatre in the southern half with shows twice nightly I think.

Don't know when they stopped but I actually saw two different shows in that generation of the 15th floor. The first was the 'Broadway at the top' show and the second a few years later was a Tony Bennett concert. It was done in a dinner theater sort of mode with the stage in the southwest corner of the floor and all the tables positioned to view it.

To jog the memory I dug a few pics out of Broadway at the Top...

Actually the layout has not changed much. When you got off the elevator, The TOW Lounge was to the right (Magic Kingdom end), and the Broadway was to the left. The bandstand was on the outside wall on the Seven Seas side, with a dance floor in front. The tables formed a semi circle on two levels around the dance floor. It was not separate restaurant and theater, Broadway was a dinner show. Quite good too.

•Top of the World Dinner Show 10/71 - 1981 (Celebrity Entertainers)
•Broadway at The Top 6/81 - 9/93

Now, I thought there was also some kind of special holiday show at CR. Does anyone know what I am talking about?

You're probably thinking of the Jolly Holidays Dinner Show Spectacular which ran from 12/92 - 12/99. It was held in the CR Convention facility. After it closed, rumor had it moving to MGM, but that never happened.

I went to Top of the World in 92... it was a set menu with 3 options for the main course, and if you got seated at the 915 show, they would raise the curtains on the windows and pipe in the music from Fantasy in the Ski at 10pm... The stage came out from under the bandstand so it was not in the way when it was not in use.... and the meals were $50 each.... 1 other thing of note, you could go out on the northern balcony at 9pm and watch the Main Street Electrical Parade wind its way throught the Magic Kingdom and even hear the music in the background pretty well... as you can image, this is one of my magical memories

Yes, Thanks. That is it, but for some reason I was thinking it ended in 01 not 99.
