Why the slogan change for DVC?

The old slogan of the Disney Vacation Club was "Own a Piece of the Magic." Now it is "Have You Heard the Best Kept Disney Secret?" Why the change? I know it could be that they want to have fresh new advertising, but did Disney get in trouble, like a lawsuit against them, because you don't acutally "own" except time and the the best kept secret is that you don't own anything.

No - it was changed merely for strategy and to pull more people into the informational kiosks which now litter all of the parks --

The have used the "best kept secret" for over a year now -- and I am sure there will be yet a new approach soon.

Frankly - I think they were having some trouble with DVC for awhile and a lot of people were selling back their time shares through their time share brokers -- perhaps they wanted to get away from the "magical" aspect of the original slogan.

If you compare what they offered three or four years ago, versus what they offer now, you will find some significant differences.

Do you mean in a negative sense? I am not familiar with what was offered years ago - was it significantly more or just different?

It was significantly more -- and included more freebies and frills. Basically the time share now is just that - a time share like everywhere else. I think Disney realized they didn't have to throw in all the freebies and people were still buying.

Exactly, when we bought into it we got free park passes for the first 10 years, thats a huge chunk of change Disney lost

I am now so bummed that I did not buy in ten years ago! Of course, I did not even know about DVC ten years ago!
Keep in mind that Tigger1988's parents joined in 1993 so they were early joiners.
We joined in 1999 and there was no offer for free park passes, so that freebie has been gone for at least 7 years.

I think it's great that we'll save $100 per family member on the annual passes. :sohappy: Make sure you take advantage of that perk.

My mother works with someone who bought way back when it first started in 1991. They offered him a chance to buy LIFETIME PASSES!!! But he didn't take it because he figured "How many times will I go to Disney for the rest of my life?". He has kicked himself ever since.

But the change in perks offered does not explain why they changed their slogan.

But remember....it would have been lifetime passes for the parks that were open at the time they were issued. It wouldn't have included Animal Kingdom and any park developed in the future.

Despite the perk changes, you still don't own anything. I personally think that is why they changed their slogan. "Own a Piece of the Magic" seems stronger than "Have You Heard the Best Kept Disney Secret?" So why would they change it?

They change their slogans every couple of years. It didn't used to be "Own a Piece of the Magic" That only lasted a couple years. For awhile, it didn't have ANY slogan - they just had stands that read Disney Vacation Club. Companies change logos like that all the time, depending on their current marketing plan. I am sure they will soon have yet a newer slogan as they go into the next major resort expansion for DVC -- let's see what that one is.

It was a good strategic move from Disney, and the slogan before was faulty in my opinion because you dont really own it, or a piece of the magic in this case:lol: . But im sure the DVC membership would be a good buy.:animwink:

Every company changes their slogan every few years, McDoanld's hasn't always had "I'm Lovin It". It was time for a new DVC slogan.

All the legal documents reference your "ownership interest".

You don't own anything but "time". You are paying for the privelege of "time at Disney" in a more comfortable apartment setting. Its the way of all time shares.
