Two questions, now that you’ve started replying to them.
1. What do you mean by “better put together”?
2. Are you mainly talking about table or counter service, or both?
Both. Overwhelmingly, new options at Disney and Universal have taken a consistent step up in their quick service and fine dining Orlando offerings. It’s most obvious at Universal.
From Toadstool Cafe to Minions Cafe to Goblet Noir or The Atlantic, but look at HWS: Docking Bay 7, Woody’s Lunchbox, and even Roundup BBQ, that’s one park. It is noticeable. The only one that hasn’t experienced this at scale is MK, but they did just do the Beak and Barrel and GEO82 to diversify with high quality offerings, so they are clearly going to keep doing spaces like these too. A Haunted Mansion restaurant/bar
That’s also come with downgrades like California Grill prefix and Be Our Guest, like I e said, numerous times on these forums, the Iger era is a serious mixed bag, you stay long enough you eventually become the villain, Eisner style.
Even the resorts. I mean, Toledo, Toppolino’s, Citricos, all well-done. They’ve also improved Ohana from its lows.
The food has gotten better over the years at the newer restaurants, even if they’ve gotten more expensive.
Other than Satuuli, Flamehouse and Docking Bay, the QS at WDW is same-y everywhere. With fluorescent Mac & cheese and cardboard pizza standing out - and not in a good way!
Connections Eatery, Harambe Market, Regal Eagle, Nomad Lounge, Baseline Taphouse, Woody’s Lunchbox, Gaston’s Tavern in addition to what you mentioned. They’re all better than Cosmic Ray’s, Electric Umbrella, etc. aesthetically and food wise.
I’m going to go out on a limb and say PizzaRizzo will be viewed in disgust when the Monsters one opens, as will Mama Melrose’s which is like Tony’s bad could literally get some sushi dishes, I mean it’s so popular today, wouldn’t that be nuts?
And do we really think Villains food or the Restaurantasourous (however you spell it), will not be anything but Docking Bay 7 good?
That’s not to say docking bay or connections are as good as their peaks, but they’re far better than many older alternatives still, that’s pretty much widely understood at this point.
They are step ups compared to the QS we got before, and on average.
We liked the choice of German sausages in the QS in Fantasyland (DLP). Didn’t really try anywhere else for counter service.
I’ve had them, they’re fine. I went to King Ludwig when it was open back in the day and that was also “fine.”
The biggest complaint I see about table service at DLP from Americans is how long it takes…. but that’s a culture shift for you guys.
I personally like long meals. I speak Spanish (part Colombian) and being in Spain felt like being with my people. From the late eating, to the ways every meal is a celebration. I love the larger family vibes too, while Spain is more European in this sense, Coco and Encanto nailed the large, close family vibes, so yeah, I don’t mind longer wait times for food, so none of my criticisms were directed towards this at all.
My
only complaint is the slow water service across Europe, as I thoroughly hate how restaurants in America rush you particularly at chains, so this doesn’t apply to me.
I just legitimately think Paris has the worst food of any Disney resort ON AVERAGE. I’ve been to every one. Paris 5 times. For the people I’ve convinced to go to other resorts (people I know have finally made it out to Paris/Tokyo/Disneyland) they also agreed, tho apparently Tokyo’s quick-service has gone down in quality post-COVID, can’t speak on that, but in 2018 their quick-service was absolutely better than any other property.
Hong Kong and Shanghai were also significantly better, again, on average than Paris and honestly Orlando too for quick-service. Where on Earth can you get
I love DLP BTW, I don’t know why people get so defensive over the resort’s food, it sets people up for the wrong expectations.
It feels more like Universal Orlando circa 2010.
