Does anyone else think Galaxy’s Edge is a misfire?

and I'm annoyed that is still a problem 26+ years later. It needs more dark rides and indoor shows. There's 2 covered theaters that have been empty for years and now a third closed indoor show that they're finally doing something with.
I mean Animal Kingdom has 2 indoor rides, but I see what you mean.

First and more most, SGE is not visually appealing. An OT character swap may help but the land is just bland and feels lifeless. It's borderline depressing just walking around. I'm baffled that a company can create such a stunning land like Pandora, then 💩 the bed with SGE.

I agree and want to add that for all the talk of immersion I never feel like I'm on another planet in it.

Granted I don't feel that way on Pandora either.

Three: Dinosaur, Flight of Passage, and River Journey. But still too few.

I'm watching the John Williams documentary on Disney+ and reminded WHY ISN'T THERE STAR WARS MUSIC THROUGHOUT GALAXY'S EDGE?

I know others have mentioned it, but it really is a huge miss that's one of the easiest and quickest things they could correct. I understand there's *some* realism by not having it, but people want the adventure, the escapism, the epicness of Star Wars.

Does this happen at any of the Harry Potter areas at Universal?

I have a theory as to why Pandora works but SWGE doesn’t: in the Avatar movies, the setting is secondary to the story. Generic jungle, generic ocean, generic wherever-the-heck-the-new-movie-takes-place.

I could digitally splice in snippets from the Jurassic Park/World series into any of the Avatar movies, and few people would be wise to it, especially the last one with the Jurassic Cloverfield Monster and mini-Rodans, all of which look like they belong on Avatar.

In Star Wars, there is such a heavy emphasis on place-making that the settings are just as much characters as the actual actors.
And that is how Redwoods National Forest can easily become the forest moon of Endor and nobody questions it.

And that’s where Galaxy’s Edge falls apart. Nobody gives two wooden nickels about Baatu/Batuu/Baatuu except the folks who wanted a blank slate to create their own story. What SW fans really wanted was to explore places like Mos Eisley Spaceport on Tatooine, which has become so iconic to the franchise that it’s been popping up in everything from The Mandalorian to Star Wars: Kenobi.

And that’s where Wizarding World excels. It lets the fans explore the iconic places in the films from Hogsmeade Village to Diagon Alley.

The approach Disney took with Galaxy’s Edge would be like if Universal built a Wizarding World land, but it was set in Sheffield, which is a nice place from what I gather, but isn’t part of the HP movies.

And Harry Potter was there once like 30 years ago, but someone got his broomstick and it’s parked outside a restaurant called the Goblin’s Goblet where a House Elf DJ plays dance music.

Like wanting a Coke, but getting served a Sam’s Choice.

When I was at WWoHP in 2011, they were playing a loop of all of the film scores at Hogsmeade. Trouble was, it wasn't a very long loop. I heard the Weasley Twin theme from HP5 like three or four times while eating at the Three Broomsticks. Still it's better than having NO MUSIC ANYWHERE!

Excellent breakdown

Someone just a few weeks back made the claim that Star Wars wasn’t about locales at all? I think in the Starlosers
Defense?

Ridiculous…you can’t teach dumb. But it was one of the faux “imagineers”…I believe…so it wasn’t that notable

Yes, plenty of Star Wars music score that can be played throughout the land as background. Interesting how the unimaginative imagineers have not imagined setting the mood and ambiance with music / sound.

This….. this is 1000% it. It’s actually quite amazing how Disney missed this by so much.

It’s still so baffling how someone said “ya know what we should do…. We should exclude the most iconic characters in cinematic history - make sure nobody can see them!

Darth Vader and Yoda should both have stand alone attractions in that land. A yoda special effects show would have been incredible- imagine a setup like stitches great escape - but it’s like a cave - and yoda as an AA demonstrates the force. I want that so bad!!!!

I'm a massive Star Wars fan and I enjoy the sequels. But I agree that Galaxy's Edge needs a signficant boost.

When I first visited in February 2020, the land did feel more alive at the time, maybe because it was still new to me? I just remember seeing people walk around lightsabers (and you still do - to a degree) and the characters felt more out and about.

Bring back the March of the First Order (even if you don't want Phasma due to the timeline) and get a little cavalcade/mini parade going. Make sure GE is a destination at night! Bring over the projection show they run at Disneyland. Make sure you have more roaming characters and a stunt show here and there (like they did on Starcruiser) would be huge.

This is not a hard and expensive fix.

What happened to the detail themed, sit down, Star Wars dining experience? (actual restaurant) maybe with an actual stage show as before when there were Star Wars weekend shows. Follow the character dining model.

Probably canned due to the Starcruiser. It really makes me wonder if the Starcruiser wasn't made, how different Galaxy's Edge would be.

Star Wars Weekends were far superior to Galaxies Edge.

Every time I am at Universal I think how lucky we are that Disney did not get the Harry Potter franchise.
Ironically though, I would prefer Disney would do themed lands/areas for:

Star Wars (pre-Disney era)
Pirates of the Caribbean (OG Trilogy)
Spider-Man (Brooklyn, done right)
Guardians of the Galaxy’s Nowhere
Alien
Lilo and Stitch (though probably as a ride/mini-land)
Wall-e (also as a ride)
The Incredibles
Nightmare Before Christmas
Narnia
Aladdin
Hunchback of Notre Dame (mini-land New Fantasyland expansion could be neat).
Who Framed Roger Rabbit
Jules Verne + any million other public domain stories.

But they don’t. Make it make sense, and that’s just scratching the surface. I’m very thankful Villains is happening though.

Not going to lie, given the state of EPCOT losing a large part of its identity, why don’t they add Mulan, Aladdin, Tangled, Mary Poppins, and a new Crush’s Coaster? I mean sure, Imagination/SSE/Wonders of Life should be the priority, and if say they overhaul and make Figment a E-ticket again, I think a Tangled or Aladdin ride would be a great trade-off. I just don’t get the way they sideline terrific IPs.

Seriously, Aladdin has next to no representation alongside Lilo and Stitch, yet their terrible remakes each made $1 billion; why don’t we have an Aladdin KUKA arm ride or dark ride? Why don’t we have a Lilo and Stitch book report boat ride?

Obviously Beauty and the Beast and Lion King are international, but especially with Lion King at AK, it seems to make logical sense.

I want new original rides too, but they’re not even truly milking their legendary IPs as is.

Bringing back Star Wars Weekends and feature a lot of it in Galaxy's Edge would be a great way to slowly introduce characters from all timelines back.
Just introduce character interactions at the rate DL does... no need for hoopla trash.. or special merch (there already is ton).. or celebrity stuff. People loved SW being on overload.. we already have that.. it's just not all the character diversity people want. I mean they had Launch Bay which could have easily met those needs, but they didn't...

Aladdin was represented in the stage shows at DL and on the boats... which was a great format for the content because it allowed actual performance like the Genie. Stitch has it's own attraction until recently and has had numerous promo presence too.

Both properties you mention are things they HAD presence for.. and also are basically two generations old now while the company has been pumping out new franchises since. They can't fit them all.. and for everyone crying where's stitch, there is people crying where's coco, etc.. and one had their opportunity and the other hasn't...
