If Universal was smart, they'd build a DC land that delivers what Avengers Campus fails at in Hollywood. They can then bring those concepts over to replace Marvel Island at IOA. Give me an Indiana Jones Adventure-style Batmobile ride and a Justice League Kuka Arm-based ride where Superman picks up our vehicle and flies with it and I'm there.

And then just bring over the Spider-Man rife over to DCA to replace Webslingers.

I can't think of a single plus to Universal giving rights to Marvel back to Disney

How would replacing Marvel Super Hero Island not involve giving up the rights to Marvel?
Because they still have the theme park rights East of the Mississippi. They can easily have a Super Hero Island with Marvel and DC together. Or keep a few Marvel attractions in some capacity between the three parks they have in Florida. It could even be a show with all of the characters they are looking to keep.

They could even put DC into the Studios park with it replacing Jimmy Fallon, Fast and Furious, and their concert venue. Although I'd rather them add a new Marvel ride to the New York area and give us a DC Island at IOA. Marvel doesn't need an island as it takes place in our normal world for the most part. So include Marvel with NYC and give us a sweet Gotham City/Metropolis.

Universal is contractually obliged to operate a Marvel land and if they don’t they lose the rights.

Plus I can't imagine that Disney/Marvel would want any intermingling of superheros from another studio. As Uni is required to maintain the Marvel integrity up to a certain standard as set by Marvel. Failure to do so and I believe the rights are revoked.

At this point, I think DC is a stronger choice for parks. More distinct locales, plus easier to design a great Batmobile ride than a great Spider-Man ride. The Scoop was fine for its time, but now we are getting an Avengers version and a Peter Pan version and yadda yadda yadda. The swinging coaster patent seemed cool, but from Disney and who knows how it would work without looking like yet another coaster in a box.

That’s arguable, but the point remains that it’s fairly unlikely both will be used in the same Park. So if Uni wants to add DC then Marvel gets removed and all rights revert back to Marvel. Paving the way for an expansion of Marvel in WDW.

I’m kinda hoping Universal keeps Marvel Superhero Island, with its wonderful Spiderman ride, and—if they obtain the DC park rights—overhaul Toon Lagoon and the amphitheater into a Gotham/Metropolis to create the most massive collection of comic book adventures the world has ever seen in one location.

It would be great. I really can’t imagine any reason Universal would ever hand Disney the keys to building a competing superhero land at WDW.

retheming super heroe island seems like a logical choice...would be pretty simple if they kept the comic style. retheme spiderman area to arkham/batman area, Hulk coaster to superman or something etc...

True, but why obtain DC rights just to retheme the Marvel area, if instead they could simply leave Marvel intact and continue to prevent their biggest competitor from ever opening a superhero land in Florida?

IMO, a basic DC overlay of Marvel at IoA wouldn’t be a big enough draw to be worth releasing those Marvel character rights to WDW. I think Universal needs to plan much bigger than that.

They really can’t do much in the Marvel space at this point anyways, as they can’t really update it and they can’t expand it in terms of new rides with new characters, it’s locked. It’s why the area hasn’t been refreshed in years beyond maintenance.

Basically it makes more sense to tear it down and let the rights go if they want DC. Same thing with the rumors about Simpsons being let go in 2028.
