From what I heard, Imagineers pretty much told execs they can't mess with ToT and that they refuse to work on anything that has to do with a retheme of it. How true that is, I don't know, but I hope it is.


Honestly, I don't think an IP mandate is bad. People come to Disney World to see the Disney characters they love. The problem we've had is the terrible product that has come out, which to me speaks more about the quality of imagineers than Bob Iger's desire to make use of his IP. Take TBA. Yes, it's difficult to come up with a solid strategy to retheme Splash into a Tiana ride, but there are plenty of directions you could take it that would be more compelling and create an overall better attraction than what we got. Bob didn't sit in a meeting and ask for the secret ingredient to be music. That's the imagineers.

I’m not sure how this directly relates to Iger or how him leaving would potentially change this for the better. The IP mandate is only a fractional part of the issue. His exit could signal the end of the IP fixation (though I very much doubt it), but it won’t magically unlock more impressive attractions or better storytelling capabilities within Imagineering.

Who said anything about IP and who said only Iger? It's a culture problem he co-created.

Problem is, people are idiots and continue to give Disney their money and flock to whatever crappy new attractions they open. And Iger continues to get away with things that Eisner was, and would be, taken to task for.

That is catching up the way their too big to fail box office reputation did...fast.

I think people need to be very, very concerned for Indy, Encanto and the RoA replacement.

Because a random 3D show is indicative of all quality but not Test track, Guardians, Rise of resistance

Hmmm. I wonder if that's the ONLY attraction they refuse to mess with or if there are others.

Doing IP-based attractions isn't bad, the problem is just that there used to be a balance of IP-based rides and original attractions - it shouldn't have to be ONLY IP rides or ONLY original rides. Also, they have a habit of putting certain IPs in places that they do not belong.

Guardians has a crazy amount of flaws for the price tag but it’s actually a really fun ride.

The exact same coaster without the IP would have the same lines. If you want proof look at tron…. Cause nobody cared about that Ip! Lol

The new Test Track is very weak - the positive reaction is baffling. GotG is a fun coaster and a really lousy theme park ride and a weak representation of the IP. Zootopia isn’t an aberration, it’s the continuation of a trend.

Just to keep this from being too negative - up until Big Al appears, the new Country Bears is a lot better than I expected. I liked it more than the old Vacation show. It’s not flawless, but if it were alternating with instead of replacing the old show I’d almost love it -well, 2/3rds of it.

Again, it really depends on your definition of story. X and Marc also answered really to one person. (Walt) There are several layers of bureaucracy dividing the average Imagineer and Iger.

This doesn't sit right with me. Animals DON'T coexist like in Zootopia. They are ruled by the forces of nature, which another poster states "we evolved beyond." This is an extremely problematic statement to make in a park dedicated to showcasing the forces of nature.

Even worse is that they’re making the ToL sculptures part of the Zootopia canon.

Instead of a magic Tree of Life that grew with animal portraits occurring within it, it’s now Zootopia encroaching on (vandalizing) the natural world just like humans.

It’s an egregious waste, like carving faces into the side of a mountain .

As I have said since Iger returned we simply went from worse back to very bad.

Eisner understood entertainment. A fairly creative guy for sure. He was willing to understand and elevate theme parks.

I am a Michael Eisner fan. My comment was to the poster who said it is not just Iger. It is not. It is the leadership with Iger that grew and become the norm more and more since 2010.
