The only thing the bands were good for was to go in the pool without having to worry if someone was stealing your things. I image it worked great for a waterpark.

Guess we'll find out if his three year old band works!

From what I understand, older bands should still work tap points (physical touch) but if the battery is dead, some of the long range things (ride photos) may not. IIRC my step dad still uses an old MB2 that I'm not sure how long he's had (he just carries the puck in a lil holder, doesn't wear it on his wrist); we haven't activated a MB+ for him yet b/c he doesn't really need all the other things.

I would be more annoyed - don't get me wrong, I *am* annoyed about this - but us UK visitors have already been feeling this kind of stinginess for some years now. Only US residents could pre-buy discounted MagicBands before their trip post-Covid, and international visitors don't even get any type of MagicBand shipped to their homes before their vacation anymore either.

Because of this I was kind of just waiting for this inevitable announcement to be made. With modern phone tech, we really don't *need* MagicBands anymore. I still like them! For nostalgia's sake I still use them on my trips... But I'm fine for Disney to move on from this tech experiment. I just wish the company would lower the base price of all Band types to reflect the fact they're not very useful or important anymore. I'd buy far more for my collection if they were cheaper purchases! Not like the stupid bounty hunter and statue mini games offer much value...

As someone who really hates taking out a phone at the parks, I liked the MB. However, given that you are almost required to take your phone out at this point anyways (LL, etc.), I guess it doesn't matter.

LL's aren't linked to magicbands (if you use them)??

the optics and feel of another perk being removed is almost worse than the monetary loss.
I think this is the elephant in the room Disney fails to see… perception is everything.

The perception continues to shift from “it’s expensive but worth it” to “it’s not worth it anymore”.

I have no idea what they’re thinking in Burbank, attendance is down, brand perception is down, and their reaction is to raise prices on everything and simultaneously cut perks… I used to view Disney as the shining example of how to run a successful company, now they are literally one of the worst ran companies in the world. How the mighty have fallen.

Make sure your MDE is updated so you can quickly pay for your monorail ride before it goes on to the next stop
I’m kind of surprised they haven’t monetized transportation already, a small fee to board the buses, boats, and monorails would generate tons of money. Start with $1 a person, not a high amount, then raise it to $2, then $3… in no time it’s $25 a person to get to the parks from your hotel/car and another $25 to return to it… could be an easy $200 a day in extra cash from every family of 4, I’m not sure how they missed such an obvious nickel and dime money generator…

Its not a matter of IF they will RESUME charging for transportation in WDW (Google it) its a matter of WHEN.

No more expensive than modifying the app to include a Lightning Lane for the Monorail and boat stations. Imagine -- pay $9.99 for basic transport across/around the lake, and add another demand-flexible surcharge to get into the Lightning Lane for a monorail or boat. The other option would be to pay $9.99 for basic transport and then wait in the stand-by line...
